I didn't know I had ADHD when I was younger, but looking back to my childhood...
- If you didn't use meds, do you wish you had? no, i'm glad my crazy little mind was allowed to wonder when I was really young. The only thing that gets me annoyed was the fact that I still don't know some of the basics like my times tables which really affects me today, meds could have helped me with things like that
Or the reverse...
- Are there any other services you wish you could have benefitted from
(OT, etc). i would have benefited from one on one lessons with a special teacher. I was a quiet intelligent child at school, people obviously didn't notice that my mind wondered off the track as often as it did.
- Do you feel the way your family interacted and helped you was positive?
I can't really answer this, but again, as an adult looking back, I was always the 'slow' one of the family and the butt of family jokes for being like that. All very light hearted, but they have never really tried to find a reason at why I'm so slow in doing everything.
- Is there a type of school (private vs. public) that you feel would have
been best for your situation?
No way! had it have been picked up, I would have the access to special schooling that I know from my brothers Dyslexia special schooling, would have been at a very high standard.
-Overall, what do you feel could have made your situation as positive as
possible?
Better social interaction, being picked up when I was depressed from the age of around 4, being shown how best to time manage from an early age so that it wasn't such a hurdle in later life.
I know its not quite what you were looking for, but I hope it helps!
