Anon - I would assume that strattera would show on unine screen, most drugs do.
And the Army are paranoid enough to view employees emails and postings etc. Just a curiosity and a worry about you. I dont trust government much
You are amazing to have coped thus far without meds and to complete your contract. You must be looking forward to the relief of meds for a while.
I've been lurking on this forum for the past few months, but haven't written anything. So, I thought I'd jump in on this one. I spent 6 years in the Army Reserve, but have only recently been diagnosed with ADHD.
I went through the Army course on the Drug Testing Program, so here's what I remember. It's very doubtful that the drug test would pick up Strattera. The test doesn't reveal every single chemical in your urine. They actually have do individual tests for each drug they are looking for. If I remember correctly, there are two drugs they always test for (Marijuana and Cocaine, I believe). They also test for three additional drugs. These drugs are rotated occasionally, or they may choose them based on what has been a problem lately. Also, the level of drugs that would need to be in your system for the test to come up positive, is actually quite high. The military sets the needed levels much higher than that looked for by most civilian companies that require drug tests. Plus, each of the tests are run three times. If it comes up negative just once, the sample is considered negative for that drug even if the other two test runs came up positive.
So, unless Strattera contains a chemical shared by a common narcotic (which I'm pretty sure it doesn't), then you should be fine. The stimulant medications though, would almost certainly come up positive.
I hope that wasn't to rambling and actually helped.
There is no need to worry about anything (in reference to stratera and piss tests). Even if it shared something with, say, cocaine, it does not matter. Army policy is that if you have a prescription for a drug, you tell them up front and they write it down. IF the sergeant doesn't ask or doesn't care to write down that you have a prescription, it will fall back on him, not you.
I spent four years Army active duty and the other eight years with the Army Guard, so if taking a piss test was a school, I would have gotten my Piss Tab by now.
I agree, straterra will not show up on a urine screen, but it may also not help you. I would take what helped your before. straterra is a second line drug, and takes weeks to see any effect, and only helps about one third of true ADDers, and has more bad side effects. I am in the reserves, and did not have the diagnosis when I joined, but later, and the military wrote my scripts for ritalin while on active duty.
