What is his weight? Strat is based on weight, not symptoms, and 25 mgs may be too low or too high.
Strat does help some with hyper/impulsive, it does wonders for some kids who cannot take stims.
it really sounds like the meds need adjusting.May I ask if you son is hyper/impulsive? I just wonder if stratterra will ever be a good choice?!
It will never help with those two symptoms. It is best with the inattentive.
It may also be causing the behavior. It made my son actually depressed, severly.
I would consult the doctor about trying another med. Something is not right, all of a sudden.
Hi, I am having real problems with my DS
He was on RITALIN but lost weight and became very aggressive so was taken off it. He was then placed on STRATTERA 25mg but as it can take a few months to get into his system we were told to give him 10mg in the morning of EQUASYM (RITALIN BASED)
He has been on these for about three months now and everything was ok until a couple of weeks ago, nothing has changed at school or at home no change in routine to affect him.
He has become really aggressive again, not concentrating at school, not doing anything he is told at home.
This weekend was the start of a week from hell!!
I took him, my DD (ADHD/TOURETTES also) and my two year old DS to the local park to burn off some energy. The first hour was fine fed the ducks, had a good run around and then went up to the playground for a while.
I took my youngest DS to the swings and left my other two at the climbing frame (I could see them from where i was)
All of a sudden I could hear them shouting, They were trying to start a fight with two boys!!! They have never been like this before and my DS was shouting 'I want to punch someone in the head'!!!
I marched them both to the car and explained that this sort of behaviour was unacceptable and that if it ever happened again they would not go to the park again. He did eventually calm down and we are still unclear as to how it started.
Monday he came home from school and he had cut a huge chunk of hair out with a pair of scissors and when I asked him why he shrugged his shoulders and said 'Dunno'
Yesterday I had a phonecall from the school to tell me that during PE he pulled down a girls knickers!!! He started crying and denying it, then got really angry and threw his glasses at me (which we still can't find!) until bedtime when he finally admitted it to me, he said that he didn't know why he did it!
Please someone advice me, this is the worst he has been for a long time and I don't know what to do. We are seeing the phsyciatrist tonight to see if she can help with the meds.
sammi3339476.9839930556I would contact your psychiatrist or psychologist for advice that is what I do something is going on do not wait.
Stratterra helps with my daughters hyperactivity (although it's not a big issue anyway) and most of her impulsivity (she still interrupts, but doesnt hit
, if you get what I mean. It's changed her inattentivenss DRAMATICALLY and as edbson says, it's done wonders for us....................she cannot takes stims, at least not without a lot of side effects
