Anger and aggresson going away I think | ADHD Information
My daughter has ODD but her anger is not bad but on my caseload at work for a child under age 6 the behavior specialist suggested an angry box. Get a shoe box and have the child decorate it and whenever angry have paper and crayons and activities inside special to help them identify when they get angry and do something healthy with the anger as apposed to negative. Also do not let them have the "angry" box with special activities for it will lose meaning and it teaches them to calm down in a good way.
That's great news. I hope things continue to go well for your son.
My daughter has been on Concerta for a couple of months and last month we added tenex to the mix to help with tics. So far the combo seems to be working really well for my daughter. She seems much more manageable in the evenings when her Concerta is worn off. The verdict is still out as to whether or not it is helping with the tics as we were told it takes 6-8 weeks to build up in your system.
First, I don't want to say that meds are the answer, but my son, who is oppositional, angry, irritable, and aggressive, started on Tenex 2 weeks ago and so far I am seeing a much more adjusted kid. He says OK a lot, when his sister bugs him, he doesn't do the "scream" thing or hit her. He got mad at the computer, but instead of kicking it, he gently laid down the monitor (??). Before, he was having outbursts like kicking a whole in the wall, destroying his room and dismantling his loft bed, hurting himself, etc. and I went to the psych in a panic that I would need retraints! But we added the tenex and he does seem much calmer. He has ADHD and mood issues, and is very ODD. He is also on concerta and zoloft, but the tenex really seems to be the one that has affected his angry/irritable issues. I hope this helps someone with options as there are so many of us with ADHD kids adn other things on top of it. Good luck!
