ritalin and anxiety | ADHD Information

Share

Hi, I am 25 and recently diagnosed with add.  My doctor started me out on ritalin, 5mg, twice daily.  I also take busiperone for my anxiety attacks.

So sometimes the ritalin works great.  My focus is good, my mind stops racing, i am productive.  But a couple of times I have had some extreme anxiety.  Sometimes I feel sleepy and stoned.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Also, could caffeine be playing a role?  Any advise/similar storys would be appreciated!

Never heard of it, and the search didn't give me anything. Actually, it has been awhile since i have drank a cup of coffee and I miss it!

thanks katie!

i guess it's just a matter of finding the right combo, what a pain...  The anxiety has been better for the past couple of days.  i go to the doctor in a few days to follow up on the ritalin and i'm wondering if it's worth my while to try adderall just to see if the side effects are less annoying.  Has anyone tried both?  which is better in your opinions??  thanks!

Hmm, me too. I accessed it the other day, though.

Haha. Oooh yeah. I know where you're coming from on that one.
This year, I've gone through Adderall, Datrana, and Focalin, but none of them have worked with my anxiety. I think that their bottles/ packages say not to take with anxiety. It worsens the symptoms a lot. But since learning what to do and how to control my anxiety, I'm just going back to the board in terms of meds.
Caffeine, although works great for headaches (an anxiety symptom I have), it does not work for the rest of it, because adults bodies work differently than kids bodies when caffeine is added. Stopping caffeine, I've found helps my anxiety not be there I have found. As for feeling stoned, I been wondering the same thing-- at first, I swore it was the medicine-- maybe my doses were wrong and I didn't need the meds? I swore that I was the only one who felt like that; so it's good to know that I'm not the only one who's feeling this.
But then, I've found out, that in times of high stress, the medicine tends to increase anxiety-- a lot. Often, I've found my meds make me tired-- it's not like I can't work, but it's like I want to go to sleep. Although, I know that if I have an attack- even a tiny one- I always get tired-- not instantly-- but in terms of how early I want to go to be.
    I hope that I helped!

Sorry sweet,

You are a strange one, Davidornado! I mean in a good way!

I took care of my anxieties with my divorce.

As for Ritalin, I'm at 60 (sixty) mg/day.

I'd rather snort coffelenko.

Or napalm...
