Red Ear??? What in the world?? | ADHD Information

Willsmama, I will let you know. You know, our ds is tongue tied, too and he has eczema...I'm thinking "Can the poor kid catch a break!" However, he's blue eyed blond hair and tan with a big heart ... you have to really balance it out! I know what you mean, though!!

He sounds gorgeous.. My Will is so pale, like his mom, and I just wish he could tan a little like his brother does.  Top that with what looks like a 10 inch waist, and sometimes he looks like sick..

God love him....

He's cute but he looks more like his dad!   I'm a redhead, enough said.

My sons have done this all of his life. He is 11 and is not on any meds. For some reason there is an increase blood flow to his ears. Not a problem.

Let me know if you find out anything..

I just chalked it up to another strange thing that child has..

So, this thread isn't as DESPERATE as some of my others (you can relax a little! )  But DH and I have noticed for a long while now that DS is having red-ear issues! I don't know what else to call it. However, when we find him very upset, or concentrating very hard on something one of his ears (can be either left or right) will get very, very bright red and will have heat to it. I mentioned this to our dr once and he just raised an eyebrow and did a little chuckle...  "Mkay, then!"    Since we have another dr appt coming up this month, we decided to take a picture of both of his ears to compare yesterday. His left was bright red and hot and the other was flesh and cool to the touch.  Odd isn't it???  I googled it and all that really comes up is information for ear infections, which is not the issue at hand.  I'm bumfuzzled, both of us are. DS just laughs, like "What's new, it's always something about me!!" He's got a pretty good sense of humor if caught in the right moment...Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there.

This also happens to my 8yo son when he gets very angry. By the way- when I can't stop my son from screaming and screaming and crying I use a squirt bottle of water and squirt him with it. He stops screaming and then a make him a nice very warm bath with lavender bath salts. It takes a while to get him in but it really relaxes him.

I don't think squirting him once or twice at a time is hurtful and since he is screaming so loudly he can't hear anyone. This gets his attention so I can hug him. What do you all think?

I have a friend whose son's ears would turn bright red like that when he was experiencing a mild allergic reaction- he has multiple food allergies.  I've also seen it in connection with an insect bite, but you'd probably be able to tell that it was bitten if that was the case.

jaderock, I may have to check into the allergic reaction...not sure about that. It seems like it only occurs during major concentration or during his angry moments.  (Not screaming-induced btw)  But it is something to look in to...it's just the strangest thing to see his little ear (only one at a time) all red and hot!  I don't know...just thought I'd check here because I can't find any sort of explaination out there in google-land. Webmd had a few things listed, so I may go and double check...It's so odd.  Thanks for your reply, though! I'll definitely write it in as a possibility. ilovemyboys39482.5053009259How strange that you should mention this... my son had this happen twice
this weekend. the first time was Saturday night before dinner, and he
pointed out to me that his ears felt hot. They were beet red. He was playing
in front of the fireplace, but it hadn't gotten very warm yet. The next
afternoon his right ear got really red again, for about 30 minutes. I have
some weird thing called Reynald's disease, or something like that, where my
fingers go white for five or ten minutes... my body overreacts to
temperature changes. I wonder if it is some variation on that?

My older son had that issue last week... his turned out to be an ear infection developing though.   My younger son's ears do that when he's reacting to something he ate... he's got multiple food allergies.  Might want to look into SPT with an allergist or something.

when my son is overtired, his ears turn bright red. BETHANN39482.9562152778Quixote, isn't it just the oddest thing???  We have a dr. appt at the end of February (am currently trying to get that moved up...) and if I find anything out on it, I'll update here...I will be looking into the food allergy possibility...I'm not sure that we've been eating anything different but we'll check all possible causes! < =text/>_popupControl(); Okay, this probably isn't related but about 8 years ago I was working at daycare and was complaining about my right ear being really hot. One of the moms who was picking up her son, and happened to be a nurse, told me that it was really red and was probably hormonal. I later asked my doc and she said yes, that can be a hormone fluctuation thing. Probably not in a child...just thought I'd throw it out there.

Will's ear does this all the time for no apparent reason. His dr said once that for some unknown reason he had an excess of blood flowing in that area at that time and it meant nothing.

It is weird though..

BPQW, maybe I need to pull my hair back and check out MY ears!!

Willsmama, Isn't it weird, though?? And the drs seem to just be blowing it off but there HAS to be some sort of reason for it, even if it is just extra blood flow. Why is there extra blood flow to his ears? Anyway, this is me just seeking out answers for the unexplained. I can't wait to go to the dr and then report back here, seems there are many of us who share this 'red ear' problem.
