Hi.
My 9-yr-old has just started using Methadate 20mg to help him at school. On the first day he threw up, but we attributed this to the bronchitis/phlegm issues he had that week. Because he was ligitimately sick, we stopped the meds and let the illness run its course.
Yesterday we gave him an at-home trial-run to make sure the first day vomiting was just coincidental and not related to the meds. He did fine. No upset stomach. No complaints. Ate relatively well.
Today was his first day on the meds while at school. Once again I get a phone call that he's sick. His stomach is upset. Now, I'm thinking this was just a ploy to come home and play on his Gameboy, but I am curious to know if anyone else is using Methadate and whether or not they've had any issues with it. The doctor says upset stomach isn't even one of the listed adverse effects associated with the drug, but I also know everyone is different.
Any advice? He's taking the meds after he eats breakfast, if that matters.
my daughter had a terribly upset stomach the first week on Daytrana, another form of methylphediante (same med in metadate). It passed after the first week. Try to give him a half hour or so before breakfast, although if it causes appetetite suppresion this may not be good. I think it will pass.
That's good to know. I will also try giving it to him before breakfast instead of after. That seems to be the recommendation on several websites...
Since he was started higher than the lowest dose I would consider using 10mg's to start, and give it with a High fat high protein breakfast.
