First of all, tell your husband, NOT her father, to mind his own business. He is NOT helping her at all, he will send her running. He should not be involved with any disciplinary action with your daughter.
She needs some compassion right now. What she did was wrong, however, something isn't working.
We had had our son on concerta for 4 years almost. He too lost weight but then he started growing and gaining. Now he is normally built, not too small, not too big.
He also takes guanfacine, which helps as well.
I would check her meds, learn about IEP and ask for an evaluation from the school (ask us questions here if you need to), and be there for her.
Your husband needs a talking to from you, he is to stop his behavior immediately. He sounds like he's the one who needs to be admitted!
Lexi has been on Concerta for about 2 months now. At first is was amazing but I guess her body has gotten used to it. The impulstivbity is back with a VENGENCE.
She had in school suspension today and she lied about having her work done to the counselor, went to the bathroom and tore up sanitary napkins and lied about all of it. So tomorrow she is in out of school suspension. Isn't there something I can do about the school? It's like they live on another planet and have no idea how to deal with a ADHD child.
We see the doctor tomorrow, emergency appointment, because we can't wait until Tuesday. The Concerta is making her lose weight but ahhhhhh we've tried everything already it seems. And I think if we give her more Concerta it will fix it, but for how long?
Ohhhhhhh...the horror of going home tonight.
Does she have an IEP? If not I would request an evaluation ASAP in writing.
It could be the meds need adjusting, or she could need a different med.
maybe you should try switching "families" of meds and try Adderall or Vyvanse? All the meds you've tried have been a form of methylphedinate. Diane V39484.5925925926First: take a few breaths and don't blame yourself or your daughter!! You CAN deal with this. What kind of doctor is she seeing? Our neurologist said our son is not reacting normally to any ADHD meds and there may be an underlying problem. I have a call into a child psychiatrist for an evaluation but with the neurologists OK I am taking him off meds this weekend when we can be with him.
Also- you might want to ask about clonidine. It helps with hyperactivity, agressive behavior and irritibility and sleep. So we will use only that if necessary.
Take your Daughter's side. Let her know you value her. She lied to not get in trouble and it sounds like frustration made her act out. Also- write a note to the principal AND the school board about this unconscionable treatment of a special needs child!
What's an IEP? Do I request an evaluation from the school?Actually a 504 plan and an IEP are two different things. Both helpful but in different ways.
This is a great site for learning all about those and other things that will come up in dealing witht he school.
IT SOUNDS LIKE THE MEDS ARE NOT AGREEING WITH HER. IT MAY TAKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO STRAIGHTEN OUT OR IT MIGHT NOT. ADDERALL IS A STRONG MEDICATION . VYVANCE IS ADDERALL IN AN EASIER FORM OF RELEASE SO THE SIDE EEFECTS ARE LESS BUT IT STILL TAKES A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO GET THROUGH THEM. GOOD LUCKShe started Adderal XR today.
The school just called becuase she's taking things and disrupting class. So she's back in the office. The Vice-Principal is telling me that if it doesn't stop then she wil need to go to an "alternative school". I said, "I know I need to call the School District about geting her an IEP set up..." She came in with, "Well, we can handle that for you. It's actually called a 504 plan. We'll have a conference and see if we can't get her set up to help her succeed."
WHY DIDN'T YOU OFFER THAT BEFORE NOW...idiots.
Does this means that the Adderall isn't working?
I am at a
