Methylin/Ritalin concern | ADHD Information

Yes, it is likely due to his break in the meds. It leaves the body after a few hours, so there is no residual. When my son doesn't take his meds or takes a break...we all pay the price. I've learned that it's not worth it to give him a break. It's like a roller coaster...he has to start up like it was day one again and it will take a day or two to get back. During the break he's usually irritable and out of control. He hates feeling that way. Thus, we never forget & never break anymore. My 5 1/2 year old takes Methylin twice a day, 5 mg. each time. It has been working very well for us for 2 months. He didn't take it for 5 days while he was ill with pneumonia. He felt very bad all week and mostly layed around, so I didn't think it was necessary. We started his normal dose back up on Sunday. It seems like he is very irritable. Today is day 4 back on the meds. It's very much like his normal rebound, only worse and lasting much longer. Could this be because he had a break in the meds? I don't really understand that logic because I thought Methylin left the body very quickly. Any thoughts? Thanks
