Concerta and Milk?? | ADHD Information

No, never heard of it, Do not take with Citrus though.

I'm new with a newly diagnosed 9yo son.  I just picked up his first ever scrip of Concerta 18mg.  The pharmacist said i shouldn't give with milk b/c the calcium could bond with the meds.  Has anyone else ever heard of this?  He usually eats cereal/milk in the mornings and i was hoping to continue that...Thanks.

I've never heard this either...mine eats cereal with milk and a glass of milk for b-fast everyday with her Concerta. Hmmm, I may have to ask our pharmacist about it.   I never heard that about the orange juice either.  Milk and Citrus 2 hours before and after meds are No-no's. The milk is the lesser of the evils though, and alot of people do not have a problems with it. edbson39492.8806365741DS has been taking Concerta for years and I never heard not to take it with milk or citrus.  He takes it with milk every morning.  Thanks for the heads up.  I'll have to check on this.

When we started Concerta....we tried giving with milk....granddaughter said it

made her stomach unsettled...didn't feel right....so we just started either using

water or fruit juice.....she never complained about unsettled stomach after the

change...so each child must tolerate it different....

Never heard of such a thing. Is it specific to concerta or other med also? Any pharmasicts or doctors reading these forums who can give us answers? None of the endless disclosures on meds refer to this, of course they wouldn't unless prompted to.

It is specific to all stim meds.

The milk thing is not that big of a deal, usually does not actually affect the meds. Citrus actually afects the absorption, so basically a kid getting 20mg, would actually only utilize about half, so get only 10mgs of the meds.
