clonodine, tics, and everything! | ADHD Information

Hi, my son is 8 1/2 yrs old, a second grader at a private school.  He repeated kindergarten, which was a wise move.  Wanted to share with others his response to clonodine.  It has helped somewhat.  The med does not address impulsivity, fidgeting, or staying on task, but it has improved his school behavior.  He exhibited some mild tics at 5-6 (mainly sniffing ALOT) and that has diminished.  We see a wonderful behavior dr (male, a switch from his last dr. female) and he has been great.  He is not a candidate for stimulants due to tics.  My main point here is to keep trying.  The weighted vest goes on tomorrow for a trial run--he is a sensory seeker, totally SID.  Three yrs of OT.  He tends to hold it in somewhat at school, then let loose at home.  We adopted him at birth, and all of his birth sibs are medicated for ADD/ADHD.  He sees a tutor 2x a week.  We do OT like compressions and the like at home.  The trampoline is in the basement.  The main thing I wanted to share here is the amount of work required to maintain.  A spring break vacation was cancelled b/c he cannot handle all of that time off and than return to school successfully.  This is our lot in life.  He is a bright child with a high IQ and we understand (finally!) that we have to modify our life to accomodate his needs to ensure the suceeds in school (his main job). We don't resent the limitations his ADHD place on our family life.  It is what it is.  He did not choose to be this way.  Next up is some specialized testing (Whisk) at Northwestern University.  At 3K, it's hello home equity loan.  My husband and I feel that we have a responsibility to provide this great kid with every opportunity possible to make his life a success.  It truly is a journey.  This board has been a wonderful asset to my life as a parent of an ADHD child.  Thank you for all of your postings.
