Adderrall xr vs Foccalinxr | ADHD Information
Hi
I am new to this board and also new to the ADHD medication world. I have an 8 year old daughter with moderate dyslexia who was just diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type. She is not disruptive in class, but is unable to stay focused. We have been on 5mg Adderrall xr for 4 weeks and have seen great improvements in her focus. We had to bump up to 10 mg as it seemed to start wearing off around 2pm. My concern is that the Adderrall is making her moody and kind of "flat". We just moved to Nebraska 6 months ago from Utah and obviously had to find a new pediatrician. I like the new doctor, but she does not know my daughter as well as my old pediatrician. I called my old pediatrician in Utah, who we adore, and she suggested Focalin XR. She said with dh's personality traits, it would probably be better. I am now confused because after reading a few posts, it seems like a ton of people are having problems with focalin as well. I was just interested in anyone that has tried both and which one had less emotional side effects. I love that the Adderrall is improving her focus, however, I don't want my daughter to lose her great personality in the process.
Reading others experiences is GREAT, but everyone is different. People LOVE and do really well on Adderall AND Focalin. It's just not the same for everyone. Adderall and Focalin are totally different medications. My daughter got "flat" on Adderall too, I think it's fairly common. You wont know until you try the Focalin how she'll do. Unfortunately trial and error is the only way to go. Just try not to get too discouraged, rarely does some one hit on the right med at the right dosage on the first try. You'll find something that helps her without squashing her personality. Diane V39487.5786921296Thanks for the encouragement! Her pediatrician said the same thing that it takes a few tries to get it right. At least we know the meds will work. Now all we need to do is find the right one.
