sounds like she's in good hands. Good luck, its a ong road, but things will get better. I am in this for the long hull..i know that things will be hard and that at times i might think that i really am going crazy. i just have to keep reminding myself that things will get easier and better over time. alll i can do now is take it one day at a time. I would like to tank you for taking the time to chat with me...  she was  just diagnosed fromally this past Friday ,so she has only been on concerta for a couple of days now..we have not noticed any change as of yet  but we are hopeful that once the right dosage for her is figured out it will work..we were not really willing to put her on meds, but we have tried behaviour modifation..charts..rewards and lots of other things..we changed her diet..removed sugar and are now looking at removing red dye #4 from her diet as well.we are willing to try everything possible to help her. Her sepicalist told us that  27mg of concerta may not work and her dosage may need to be changed. we meet with him again in a week to let him know how things are working out. we are alsl sending her for a mri to see if there are anyother underlying problems..she has only lived with us for the past year and he doctor thinks she may have signs of shaken baby as well as FAS. we are hopeing that we find this not to be true. as our relationship with her mother is not on good standing as it is

who diagnosed her?

If she is behind in school, request (in writing) an evaluation. Send it to the director of Special Ed for the town.

If the 27 mg of concerta is not hleping talk to the docotor, she may either need more or something different.

My daughters doctor has just put her on 27mg of concerta. As for school we have been pushing for classroom accomodations..like extra help as well as one on one help,as her ADHD is causing her problems in school, she is working way below grade level and socolity she is having a hard time making and keeping friends. I am meeting with her tacher again tomorrow to ask for help for her again. I just hope that this time the school listens to me and gives her the help she need, instead of telling me that she just needs more help at home.   I have a 10 year old step-daughter who has adhd. She was just recently diginosed. I always believed that there was more to her behaviour problems, why she wasn't doing well in school and why she couldn't make friends. Her father and I tried lots of different types of programs..we took her to see a therapists..did behaviour modifaction..and finally with the help of an in home support worker along with her therapists we got her seen by a doctor who told us for sure she had adhd.  I don't know how parents with children who have adhd do it...I myself find everyday like a battlefield..wirth all the out bursts ..not to mention all the sassyness and the fighting with her brothers. and i feel as thou i am truely going crazy. any advice you can send my way would be great..at this point i am willing to try just about anything to help my whole family cope with adhd as well as help my daughter reach her full potential.  Hi and welcome. Have her doctors suggested medication? Are you willing to go that route? Most children have the best opportunity for success when combining medication with behavior modification. Does she get accomodations at school? If her ADHD is getting in the way of her learning, she will be eiligible for a 504 reuqiring the school to give her classroom accomodations to help. Like preferential seating, extra time on tests and/or homework.....etc., etc....
