Dexedrine (doctor not listening) | ADHD Information

I'm an adult with adhd. I've been put on 5mg of Dexedrine immediate release pills twice a day. I have not noticed any improvement from the medication yet to aid my concentration. I gave it a week. Called the doctor up, he said to wait another week. Its now going on a Month. And he has now told me to continue to on this strength with a new script when I went into the office. I am furious with this doctor. I am getting no benefits from it. Is this typical from a doctor? Any thoughts from anyone would be great. I have no abuse history, been on xanax 1mg 3X daily for anxiety for three years from the same doctor. What reason has your doctor given you for not making any changes after you've reported no benefit?  Seems to me he should either up the dose or change the med.  Either that, or change doctors!I AM WITH JOHN B. HE PRETTY MUCH DAID IT ALL , IF YOUR DOC DOESN'T LISTEN FIND A NEW ONE! GOOD LUCK5 mg. is a very low dose. My son is 11 and was taking 15 mg. I'm surprised he didn't try you on an extended release tab that works throughout the day.

Yep, sounds like your doctor is being way too cautious or something.

I take 45mg extended release.

I have basicly worked with three doctors since I was diagnosed (four but one stopped taking my insurance after my second visit, guess that's one way to get rid of a patient ).  Anyway, of the three that I have gone through med/dose changes with all have had me increase the dose over several days or so, x number of days at low dose, up by x mg, x more days etc.  They have also kind of given me guidelines to follow but left the choice of increasing, decreasing or staying the same up to me.

I'd be shopping for a new doctor.
