Yes mostly weight issues. But also Dad issues. Dad, who doesn't bother with him all week long doesn't think he needs the meds even though his Ped his Counsler and three teachers all see the problem. Wyatt has never been a behavior problem but the meds are helping him concentrate in school and since medicating he has learned to ride his bike and seems to be "sticking" to things more. Before that he quit everthing that required effort.
All you can do is wait and see and follow your gut instinct you know your son better. how long has he been on the Tenex, it can make you tired, he will probably get used to that if he's only just started it.He's been on it at least a year and it was given to him to help him come down of the Concerta at night and help him sleep. I know they want me to continue it on weekends even though he's not on the concerta because it has to be in his system awhile to kick in etc etc but if it's going to make him this tired then I'm thinking I can't stop the Concerta. My gut tells me something different every five minutes.
thats right you cant stop the Tenex. It is probably that without the Concerta he's feeliong the sedating effects. Why the med break? Weight issue?Ok Maybe I am panicking for nothing...My son, ADD Inattentive was on 54mg Concerta and .5 mg Tenex at night. The doctor told us it was ok to not medicate on weekends (except the tenex) and this was the first weekend we try it. He just came back form his Dad's. He had no Concerta Sat or today. Dad says Sat was fine but today DS was "tired" all day askd me to go to bed at 6:30. (I'm on eastern time) Is the tenex bringing him down? Maybe coincidence that he's getting sick? I don't want to give him his tenex because I'm worried. Any ideas? I am hoping someone is on right this minute who can help. and THANKS in advance for any answers.
Is he having a growth spurt? Did he have problems sleeping Saturday night? Did he do something long and exciting on Saturday? No, no growth spurt. After the answers I got here last night I calmed down a little (I guess it helps just to share things.) and decided to give him his Tenex again even though it scared me a little since he was already so tired. I gave him his concerta this morning on his regular schedule. After about 45 minutes he was himself again. So...it must have been the Tenex. I am going to call his Ped today and see what options we have for the nights so that we can stop the Concerta on weekends and school vacations like we want to. Thanks! I did get to talk to the doctor today and she wasn't convinced it was the tenex either. The good news in all of this is that Dad had him for a med free weeked and was "reminded" of the old days. Also, my son actually told his dad he felt better on the meds. After I talked to the ped I talked with Dad and he FINALLY has agreed to back off on the whole med breaks thing. Dad doesn't see them much during the week, doesn't do homework etc and thinks (maybe he's right) that there is a better way. Meanwhile Wyatt is doing great grade wise and I don't want to mess with that. So...no breaks until summer. My Stepson is fourteen, He was RX at 6 years old. Once they started him on med. anytime his mom forgot to give him his meds. or forgot to send them with him when he came down to see his dad. He would be tired and all he wanted to do is sleep. As long as he was on the med he was fine. One time his stepfather forgot to give him the med. and he had a bad day at school. They called her to come and get him. When she got there he was asleep in the office floor and she imedely knew that he didn't have his med that day. He is getting better as he gets older. But it may not be the Tenex. Stimulates may just affect some chilren that way. I know it does him. But talk to your doctor to be sure. Melissa
