I too have tried Adderall for high cholesterol at my doctor's request, but it didn't work for me. My levels kept rising.... .
Holy Cow!  first doctors prescribe Adderall (then called "Obetrol") as a weight loss medication, next for ADHD, and now, apparently, for lowering cholesterol!!  What will they think of next?!

I have borderline high cholesterol and also take adderall.  I've not heard that adderall affects cholesterol levels, but anything is possible I suppose!  My cholesterol level did rise last fall so I'm working hard to avoid all the bad foods.  This rise in cholerterol does not coincide with my starting on Adderall two years ago.   In addition to staying away from fatty foods and foods with cholesterol, I take fish oil and flax oil supplements and eat a lot of fiber.  I also add flax meal to my cereals for breakfast.  This helped bring my cholesterol down over 40 points about 5 years ago, so I've stayed away from having to take drugs for it.

On another forum, I have read about natural remedies for improving cholesterol levels, and I think I will ask about the effects of Adderall on the other members there as well.

Omega 3 supplements have been shown to help lower cholesteraol. As well as showing very promising signs for ADHD. It won'tinteracting with other meds or causie any side effects of it's own, it may be worth adding to his diet. Search away on Omega 3's and heart health and ADHD, there's tons of information. My 8 year-old has been taking Addreall XR for a few years and is doing very well.  He is also taking Prozac for anxiety and Seroquel for bipolar.  Because of the Seroquel he needs a blood test to check his blood sugar levels, so his pediatrician decided to test his lipids since he is on Adderall.  8 months ago he tested border line high and just after the first of the year we tested again and his level was even higher at 208 with his bad chlesterol high also.  We truely eat a very healthy diet and he also get lots of exercise.  My husband is on a statin to lower his cholesterol.  We met with a dietician this past week and she did not have a lot of ways for us to change his diet but we will make small changes to see if it helps.  The last thing that we want to do is put him on another med, but his pediatrician does not want his level this high while on the Adderall.  Anyone else out there with high cholesterol and on ADHD meds, or suggestions on how to lower his level without another med?  I am going to talk to his psychiatrist to see what she suggests as she is the one who prescribes the meds.  He does so well on the Adderall and the other ADHD meds did not help him as much.  Help, support, suggestions greatly appreciated!!!  Thank you!
