My 6.5 year old son is now on Vyvance and although I was terrified at first, it's turning out to be very good for him. With one exception: insomnia. His wakefulness keeps me awake too and I'm turning into a zombie. Can he have a dose of Benadryl before bed to help him sleep?
YES NOW ON WEEK 4 HE IS ADJUSTING TO IT AND ONLY TAKES 12 OF THE MELATONIN DOSE NOW. IT IS WORKING GOOD FOR US.
Thanks, Spamula and hausof4, I tried melatonin right away. I gave half a tab to start in the eve and it seemed to work ok. Next two nights a quarter tab and still ok, fell asleep. So teh night after, I gave him nothing but some warm milk, and he fell asleep just fine, slept through the night. Thanks for the input, I still have some and if we experience any more sleeplessness I'll know what to do!
I should change my screen name to "Relieved."
ME BACK......IMO YOU SHOULD TRY THE MELATONIN 1ST IT IS ALL NATURAL, OTC AND NOT ADDICTING. THEN GO TO THE BENADRYL IF IT WORKS FOR YOU, I DO NOT WANT MY CHILD ON A SLEEP MED WITH SIDE EFFECT. THESE OTHER OPTIONS DON'T HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS MOST OF THE TIME. WITH MELATONIN YOU NEED TO START LOW MG AND WORK UP FROM THERE IF NEEDED. SOME KIDS DO GREAT ON VERY LOW DOSAGE. CHECK IT OUT!MY SON IS ON VYVANSE AND HAD MANY SLEEP PROBLEMS. I GIVE HIM MELATONIN, OR IF REALLY BAD DELSYM COUGH SYRUP. MY DOC ALSO RECOMMENDED VALERIAN ROOT OR BENADRYL, BUT MY SON HAS AN OPPISITE REACTION TO THE BENADRYL, HE GETS WIRED UP. THE MELATONIN WORKS GREAT ABOUT 90% OF THE TIME AND THE OTHER 10% I GIVE HIM DELSYUM.
1 TSP.
Hi,
The best thing to do is ask the doctor. My son's doc approved it (benadryl child's dose) but you really need to ask the doc. My son's doc also approved melatonin and that helped. FYI after a few months my son adjusted and no longer needs anything, even when we change to a higher dose.
