With Concerta I noticed a change the first day....wasn't sure if I just wanted it
so....or wishful thinking....
But the next day was even better....I seen so much of my gdd in your
post so I don't think you have the right med or dosage???? You should see
results with in a day or two...and a lot of behavorial problems should just go
away.......But each child is different...
I tried to let her go off of the medication for one day Sunday....and all the traits
of not listening when spoken to...yelling and aggression were back...
Also wanted her to address her Valentine Cards.....She started them and gave
up half way thru...You think they would have held her interest?????
So I know if she doesn't take her medication daily she just won't be able to cope
and do things...The dose has to fit the child....to work..
Hi how long before i notice a change in behaviour? My daughter has only been on 27mg of Concerts for 4 days now,and i do not see any change. Also if anyone one has any advice on how i can try to defuse the out bursts that have become a normal part of my day. I have tried many different thing...i use 123 magic..time outs..i take things away from her..i even use charts and graph that show when she has done what she was asked to do..i only ask her to do one thing at a time so that it will be easier for her to remember what she needs to do..i even give myself time outs..i have tried rewards with no luck..I also have a support worker that comes to the house once a week. Her behaviour affects every member of my family..she is aggressive and hits and throws things at her 2 younger brothers and our family pets..she yells and screams at her father and myself. She blames everyone else when she gets in trouble it is never her fault. I have given up working so that i can spend more time with her,and i am willing to do what ever it takes...so i will continue to look for the light at the end of the tunnel, however far away it might be...things are bound to get better..i hope! You should have seen a difference by now, but give it a week. Is this her first med? What is her diagnosis? She probably should have been started lower, but if it isn't working she needs to go higher, or another med. I agree it's not working. You would see a change within an hour of a long acting med.Concerta has improved concentration for my son- but I see very little difference in the HYPERactivity level. I do not see the difference in him- but his teachers do- actually I can see a difference during homework- it is a breeze right after school when meds are still active- but if we put it off till after dinner it is awful. But during regular activities- he seems the same to me.
I agree with giving it a week before deciding to stop (unless there were really bad side effects) I can say from experience- that the 1st few days on a stimulant feels different than after your body settles in. It can make you feel strange- behavior might be pretty different after the body gets used to the stim. For example- when I started stimulants I couldn't eat and felt like I was buzzing for 3-4 days. After 2 weeks I was eating and didn't feel weird at all- but my concentration was improved.
KidsInSpace39491.3319675926My son is on 18 mg concerta (he is 8) and I noticed a difference right away. It took about 1 week for his body to get used to it - he had some stomach issues at first. Now it is hard to forget because it works so well.
Good luck,
