Sleepiness gone in two weeks.

Worked after four weeks.

Lasted through the day but less effective -- wore off by evening.

The sleepiness should pass. See if you can give it at night for starters. My daughter has been on Strattera since Nov. Each dose increase we atrted in the eveing, but now she takes her high dose in the a.m. 36 mg and her small dose 18 mg after school. i am asking for a dose increase at our appt next week and will see if can do 30 and 30. I have found splitting the dose to help full day coverage and avoid side effects!

Good luck! We saw improvement fairly quickly. Optimum results will be 4-6 weeks after hitting target dose.

- how long have you found this dosage lasts throughout the day? t is a 24 hour med, and it worked the entire 24 for DD

- has anyone found a way to deal with the sleepiness side effect? It went away as soon as we started taking it in the evenings. During the ramp period it is best to take it in the evenings.

- on average, how long did it take before you found it was really working? 6 weeks. is the norm.

make sure it is ramped properly and slowly, and DO NOT take anything but the target dose for an extended period. It is based on weight, not symptoms and has to be ramped.

Do you know his target dose? if not what is his weight?

edbson39491.7530902778Thanks so much for your replies!   Sorry...I'm new to this...can you tell me
what the term "ramping" means exactly? To increase the dosage?   I can't
remember his target dose, unfortunately. He weighs 47 lbs. Any
suggestions?

Thank you!!Hi,

My 6 year old son just started Strattera and is currently taking 10 mg. My
questions are:

- how long have you found this dosage lasts throughout the day?
- has anyone found a way to deal with the sleepiness side effect?
- on average, how long did it take before you found it was really working?

Thanks so much!!

ramping means not increase the dose slowly to the target dose.

For example his target is 25-37 mgs, so he is takig 10mgs for 4 days or so, then 18, then 20, then 25. If he is good at 25 after a few weeks you stop there, if not he goes to 30, then possibly 35. His max dose would be 35 mgs for his weight. The dosage is calculated at a rate of 1.2-1.8 mgs per kilo of body weight.
