Hello,
My son has been prescribed clonidine for tics and to help him eat more. His Dr. wrote a presribtion for .2mg to be taken nightly around 7:00pm. From what I have read on this board this seems to be a high starting dose. I am wondering if I should half the pills for a week or two. His doctor made it sound like he was giving him a very small dose and when I asked if there were any unwanted side-effects could I just stop this med and he said yes because it was such a low dose. I knew from reading about it on the list that everyone says they start slow and to never just stop taking it, you have to wean off it. I am planning to start it on Friday evening so any comments would be appreciated.

Clonidine did nothing for DD's appetite, if anything it suppresses it more. It did help a little with hyperactivity, but not alot. DD stopped it after a few months. My son has been taking Clonodine .1 mg for almost 3 years. We started at a 1/2 a pill and are presently at 1 1/2 at night to help him sleep. He ussually goes to sleep like clock work. He does some times get real emotional and whinny right before he will "crash and burn" for the night. He also takes Concerta 72mg and Straterra 40mg in the morning for his ADHD. After some trial and era this is what we found to work for him. He has been on this dosage for almost a year now and we have had to up th edosage only once so far.
