My son has his first crush. | ADHD Information
I was always rejected on the guys I had crushes on and survived just be there to talk and support him like my mother did.
My daughter actually had her first boyfriend this school-year. She is in 6th grade; he is in 7th. They became friends and she really liked him (and still does). They "went out" for about a month, and it was really kind of sweet, but also stressful for parents. It's a whole new world. I tried to emphasize that boys are just people too, and a boyfriend is just another kind of friend, a special friend, and that you don't need to have a boy's attention to be special and feel special.
Anyway, he broke up with her after a month. She was broken-hearted. I thought, and told her, that he probably just wasn't really ready for a girlfriend yet because boys usually mature later than girls. Then that turned out to be totally untrue because he started going out with another girl.
Months later, he is without a girlfriend again. She still likes him. A lot. It can be hard at times. But she's OK (and so am I, but it took a while

). At the same time another boy who likes her but is too shy to actually talk to her has been sending her little notes all year...

Love isn't easy...
I think all you can do is be there for your child through the good times and the bad and keep talking to them and use the opportunities to share your feelings and values and beliefs with them. It's so hard because you want to protect them from being hurt, but that isn't possible.
Hope your son's crush ends up being a positive experience.
Hey everyone,
I was wondering how the older children with ADHD handle the whole boy and girl thing. I was quite shocked he had a crush. I had never seen him behave like he liked girls at all. He is 9 years old and is very smitten with a girl in his class. I guess I am a little nervous if he is rejected how he will take it. It is too easy for me to baby him and I have been working hard not too.
I hope everyone had a good Valentines Day!
Gail
Thanks for your replys. So far so good. He has been happy with her response since he gave her a note that said you are pretty. God love him
