Just as we all share in our frustrations, we also share one another's GOOD DAYS!! Let him know how proud you are of him, we can tell it just by your writing but make sure and let your 'on-a-great-roll' kiddo know that you think he's doing GREAT!
I am currently reading a book "Power of A Praying Parent" by Stormie Omartian and one of the things she says to do with your child is to grab them by their little chin (just to show some loving contact), stare them in the eye and say "You know what, I love you and I think you're just great!" I tried this with our ADHD son and he just lit up like it was Christmas. It was a very special feeling for both of us... You should try that with your ds!
Ditto on the support line. This forum is a testament to the power of community support: People with like mind and experiences coming to together, laying it on the line, being honest and giving/seeking compassionate views. We're not in this alone...and for singles parents, quite literally. Having no spouse as a sounding board for when there are trying times (which is consistently the case) is not a good place to be. This forum replicates a confindante who is in the know about your child. Parents of ADHD kids know exactly where you're coming from and can relate to your unique set of circumstance 9 times out of 10. The shock reaction is minimal because they've heard it all before.
So, bravo, for ourselves and our victories. Its all about the journey not the destination and thankfully its a group tour! Thank you for your insights.
