I was taking 45mg of Dexedrine and was switched to vyvanse a couple of weeks ago.
My doctor started me off at 50mg for one week then increased to 70mg. I am not sure how the adderall and dexedrine dose compare though.
Was the adderall not working for you?
In general I don't think that the amount you take realates to age or physical size as much as it does to severity of symptoms. I am definetly on the severe ADHD side so my doctor felt that it made sense to go with the higher dose.
I was given a free 30 day trial for Vyvanse and my doc had the pharmacy give me (15) 30mg and (15) 50mg. I started taking 30mg of Vyvanse and within a week had to increase to 50mg and the following week I was combing the 30 and 50. My doctor now has prescribed 140mg a day and it is working great for me. I only weigh 140 pounds so I agree it is not weight related but for the severity of the symptoms. I was also diagnosed with slight narcolepsy so this is the reason for the high dosage. When I ran out my doc gave me refill and I almost fell out at the cost 0 for 60 pills. He told me the FDA will be covering Vyvanse on most rx plans as of May 1, 2008. He gave me adderall to get me by. I took 60mg per day for 3 days and it did nothing for me but make me irritable. I went ahead and filled my rx for Vyvanse and just paid the cost. It was worth it. I only have one more month to pay the outrageous price. It definitely works for me.I used to take adderal xr 30mg and now I take vyvanse 30 mg and it doesn't seem to be working very well. My son was taking 40mg of Ritalin LA in the morning and 20mg of Ritlain about 3:00 pm for homework. We wanted to try and avoid the afternoon dose and switched to Vyvanse about 9 days ago. The doc gave him 30 mg and I think it is great but I think the dose is too low. So, my reply is that for an adult I would think a higher dose is needed. Maybe your doc is conservative and wanted to see how you react at a low dose. I am asking the doc for a higher dose for ds this week. Good luck.
I THINK YOU OUGHT TO TRY THE 30MG FOR 2 WEEKS, THAT LONG AT LEAST AND IF YOU STILL NEED HELP CALL YOUR PDOC.Does anyone skip taking this med on weekends and find it works for them. My dauther started it recently and she is chosing to not take it on weekends. She is 16 so wants some say in what she does and I don't blame her. The thing is my son is also on another med that he takes on weekends too. I found that if he skipped his med on the weekend he had to sort of start all over again on Monday. My daughter seems moody on the weekends and I really feel she needs it. THERE ARE NO MED NREAKS FOR US. MY SON IS ON VYVANCE 30MG AND IT ID LIKE STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN. OUR PDOC SAID NO WAY ON DRUG HOLIDAYS.
