Poor son is itching like crazy w/ Daytran | ADHD Information

My son has been on the patch for nearly two months now, and we love it too.  But his poor hips recently started staying red and mildly irritated and itchy (he never itched until the past week), so our doc suggested we try alternate locations.  She said anywhere between the nipples and the thighs, but not on a fatty part of the body because that could affect the absorption of the meds.  So we've been placing it in the small of his back, alternating left side one day, right the next and he has been doing great.  Actually, there is less redness in the afternoon on his back than there used to be on his hips, but pulling the patch off his back is a little more "ouchy" because it takes the "peach fuzz" hairs with it!  We will probably start using his hips again as soon as they have time to "recover", as the instructions that come with the patch say to ONLY use the hip area, but it works fine on the lower back too.  But always ask your doc, because they may have a different opinion, I'm just sharing our experience.

And thanks for the advice edbson about the Nasalcrom, I will probably pick some up and try it when we go back to using his hips.  Does the Nasalcrom affect the adhesiveness of the patch?

Not if you let it dry first, Nasonex, and flonase also work well. Daytrana is actually supposed to irritate the skin to some extent, that is how the meds get into the bloodstream. I am an adult and using the patch. I am itching like crazy after I put it on. Seems to get better as time goes on. It also hurts a lot when I remove it if there is still chemical in the adhesive. It stings.About 20 min after we put the patch on him he is itching like crazy.  Where all do you guys put the patch and is there anything I can do to make the itching stop.  He is doing great on it.  I love it except for him being embarrased about scratching his tush.  We put it on the buttocks and on the hip area.  Can it be put anywhere else or any other advice?  Thank you.For itching try Nasalcrom, available OTC. Spray it on, let it dry then put the patch on. You can't put it anywhere but the hip area.
