I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder in 2003 but I think my family doc got it wrong. I do have a little anxiety and depression now and then but I really think it may be caused by ADHD. I constantly fidget, I cannot concentrate for long periods of time. More frustrating is that my mind wonders constantly and a million thoughts are flowing throuhg my head. This comes and goes but when it is present it is really annoying. I think I get anxious about losing concentration or having too many thoughts. Do those symptoms seem like ADHD to you guys? Is it common for people with ADHD to have lots of thoughts?
Thanks,
beachdude
Sounds classic Textbook ADHD, my dear friend. (I am not a doctor, so take my words as a friend) If you haven't done so already... take some of the self-tests found everywhere on the web. I learned a lot about myself that way, and I was able to realize the things I have always hated about myself are really part of a legitimate disease that needed treatment. I was diagnosed at a normal doctor appointment, she just asked some key questions, and I fit perfectly. I had no idea I was ADD. The hard part sometimes is finding a good doctor you trust and can really talk to. And/or, get with a really GOOD therapist to start the journey of getting better, or at least understanding yourself and giving yourself a break.
Oh, forgot to say (imagine that,,, me,,, forgetting... LOL) WELCOME Beachdude! I hope you find this site as helpful and supportive as I do. Thanks smile more.
I took a few online test and they conforim it. I have an apointment with a psychaiatrist next week. Hopefully we can figure something out.
"Do those symptoms seem like ADHD to you guys? Is it common for people with ADHD to have lots of thoughts?" Yes, and also common to have anxiety! Welcome Beachdude!I too was diagnosed with anxiety years ago. I found I had ADD and since beginning treatment and realizing how I could use coping strategies along with Adderall XR, the anxiety has declined. However, anxiety does seem to be a co-morbid condition for me that rears its ugly head when my ADD causes me to not get things done. Uncontrolled ADD, feeds the anxiety. Once the anxiety kicks in, the racing thoughts of ADD can escalate the anxiety RAPIDLY. Thanks, I may try Adderall this week. Wish me luck at my next appointment. |
