Question about Vyvanse | ADHD Information

Share

Hi !

I'm new here...my name is Stacey and I'm the mom to 2 kids...Tyler, who is 10 and has ADHD, and Ashleigh, who is 8 and hasn't been diagnosed with anything.  My son got switched to Vyvanse 2 weeks ago. He had been taking Focalin XR with wonderful results, however it was only lasting about 4 hrs and he won't take a 2nd dose in school for fear his friends will find out he takes meds. SO, the doc switched him to Vyvnase 50 mgs.  My question is this :with the focalin, we would open the capsule and sprinkle it on pudding.  We've been doing the same with the Vyvanse but I'm wondering if it would have the same effect if we dissolved it in water or ginger ale ?   I'm still not so sure I'm liking the Vyvanse but he's been home on school vacation and he's bored so I'm thinking thats why he's acting the way he is ! HAHA  So, has anyone tried it on pudding...anyone tried it dissolved in a liquid??  TIA !

Hi,

I can't comment on the opening of the med because my son swallows pills. My so(11 next month) was on 40mg of Ritlain LA and 20mg after school. We recently switched to 30mg Vyvanse and after two weeks upped to 50mg two days ago. So far it has worked very well but I am always skeptical to claim victory.  Let me know your experience with the med. I would be curious.

my 9 year old ds went from Focalon to Vyvanse 30mg. you may open the capsules and put them in eater(we use sprite, his choice) we really like the vyvanse for ALL DAY COVERAGE, NO LOSS OF PERSONALITY, NO ZOMBIES HERE, SLEEP IS BETTER, EATING WE ARE WORKING ON. AND BEHAIVIOR IS MUCH BETTER AT SCHOOL! GOOD LUCK!

Hi,

For my son both Adderall and Concerta was not good. Both meds worked for him at school it was the rebound in the evening that was destroying our family. The Ritalin LA was great all the way around it just did not last long enough and I wanted to avoid the afternoon dose. So that brought us to Vyvanse. I have to say so far it seems to be working. Both Adderall and Concerta went bad for us within a week or less so Vyvanse has gotten us alot further. I know Ritalin LA can be sprinkled on food. It's not a favorite of the doctor's because it does not last long but until Vyvanse came out it was a godsend for us. Good luck.

I, too, am skeptical to claim victory !  Like I mentioned, the Focalin was GREAT, it just didn't last....I knew what his mood was going to be. With this med, I'm not so sure....I'm gonna give it one more week and see how he's doing.  He has gag reflex so he can't swallow pills...which limits us BIG TIME !  The doctor said if this one doesn't work he has NO idea what to put him on.  He's tried Adderall XR (he hyper-focused on things and was MEAN MEAN MEAN when he was coming off of it)  and Daytrana ( his teacher said it was like he wasn't comfortable in his own skin) So, if this doesn't work. what am I gonna do ??!!

My 5.5 yo dd tried Focalin XR, Concerta and Aderall and all were either BAD or did not last long enough. She's been on Vyvanse for a few weeks and it has been good, but still not long lasting enough. We've played around with the doses and the best dose for her is 10mg so we have to go to a compounding pharmacy. Giving her more makes her more aggitated and doesn't make it last any longer. We're going to try this weekend with 10mg in the morning and another 10mg around noon.  (this is all on advice of her psych)

You can disolve it in any liquid, but don't prepare it too far in advance and make sure they drink it all. That is how we do it.

Hi, We open ours up and sprinkle it on either peanut butter toast, jelly toast or cinnamon rolls.
