Statera added to Adderall? | ADHD Information

ramping is building up to optimum dose. Are you an adult?

for my daughter, she started at 18mg for one week, went to 36 for one week, then to 54. That was our target for her weight. she did great utnil school got more stressful, and we've ince increased again and she is doing GREAT! It's ramped VERY slowly with children in increments. My daughter is 13 so she s a little older may be why she did fine with the bigger jumps in dose.

Am new on Strat and wonder what is ramp? Can reassure you that Strattera seems good to me but only had it for about 3 weeks. Make sure the Strat is ramped slowly, and do not go over/under the target dose once ramp is over. Went to the doctor...so frustrated.   She decided to give Lexi a small dosage of Adderrall, the regular type, at 12:30 to get her through the afternoon. I asked her to up the dosage of Statterra and she shook her head no and said "No way."   So now...rebound is worse...she hisses and growls like an animal once her switch has been turned from off to on. Like if you tell her "No" or tell her something she doesn't want to hear she hisses/growls in response. I am still trying to figure out the exact triggers...but seriously no way to tell. Changes daily. Her response is also, "You are being mean." I tell her, "You are being mean to me also, and when you are nice to me then I am nice to you. So let's be nice to each other..."   There's no action consequence here at all. Marbles help, TV privileges help, lip gloss helps...but if she's flopping all over growling at me...nothing fixes it. So my question is this...could there be something else besides Severe ADHD with Severe Impulse control issues? I see ODD and CD possibly brought on by the meds themselves. And what meds can help it? Anyone have anything remotely like this and have you figured out something...anything that might help?   She also has trouble sleeping on top of it. And the Statterra does help her on that level...once she gets to sleep she stays asleep.   I am struggling to keep my family in one piece at this point. It affects all not just her. We go back to the doctor on Monday. Ooh that's tough. We also do a strattera combo. My son weighs 56 pounds
and takes 40mg. strattera in the morning (he used to take it at night but for
him it works better in the morning). With the higher dose of strattera, he is
only on 10mg. of Daytrana. He was on 40mg. of Ritalin LA before we
switched to the strattera, daytrana combo. He didn't have terrible rebound
issues but he didn't eat and the ritalin made him zony at higher doses.

I haven't tried it but my asked my son's doctor about tenex once and he told
me he usually prescribed it for kids with ODD - FYI.

Good luck with your beautiful little girl.

Hi Lexismom:  My son was taking 54mg of concerta and because of tics, we switched him to the new med vyvanse (same family as adderall) and let me tell you...he was soooo ODD and he normally isn't. It was like dr. jekyl mr. hyde.  Any little things set him off when the meds were wearing down and first thing in the a.m.  One night I called him for dinner and he went into a huge rage with his veins bursting in his neck!  I thought maybe the dose was too high (50 mg) so we lowered it and all that did was have me pick him up from school early (which I NEVER had to do even off meds!).  Today, back on Concerta and let me tell you so far today and it is 4:45 p.m. he has been his old self.  The ODD was definately the meds.  Try switching to a different stim along with the straterra.  Could the straterra also be the problem?  Don't know much about it.

Good Luck!

What is her Strat dose? She is going to continue with the mood issues as long as the dose is too low. That is one of the major side effetcs of a dose that is too low/too high.

She's at 25 mg Staterra at night...weight 50.6 lbs ~ age 7. Adderrall 15 mg at 7am.

The doctor will not even think about raising the dosage. I know she's not getting enouh of something because she is eating all the time. When the meds work, she is not hungry durng the day until they wear off then she eats non stop until she goes to bed.

She had a complete melt down two days ago at school at 10 in the morning and ended up in the Pricipals office. So I am thinking it's probably the Adderrall XR thats bugging her? No idea...we go back Monday again. The teacher just says she's very moody and one minute she's great and the next minute she's a basket case(screaming) and has started to be disrespectful(which is new).

I am fairly sure it's ODD...ask her a yes or no questions and the answer is NO. So stopped yes or no questions and still get freak outs. She never had these symtoms before so I assume that it's brought on by the meds being off.

??

Her target is 26-39 mgs, so probably 30-40 mgs. She probably does need to go up a bit, and I would refer the Dr to the Strat website, there is dosing info there.

Seroquel (Quetiapine)   The doctor added it this am. There is an addition Mood Disorder in there...so we'll start here. Nothing else is changing right now..just trying to get the mood stabilized. Yesterday she had a complete physiological melt down at the park. Started throwing rocks at me or anything she could get her hands on...then screamed and kicked the back of my seat in the car all he way home. It was officially the worst day ever us all. Hopefully this will help her...fingers crossed.   Thanks so much for your help! Kim Thanks Diane V. I was told different but I believe you. I suppose I'll have to try something else at times when I am feeling a bit hyper and have to work. My daughter takes Strattera. Not with Adderall, just Strattera at this point. We plan to add somethig in 2 weeks if the increased Strattera isnt enough. Strattera and Adderall?   She's been on Adderall XR started 2/8 at 10 mg...then upped to 15 mg 2/15. The focus was fine on the 10mg and even better on the 15mg. But the ODD and CD are worse? The doctor thinks it's rebound and has prescribed her Statera to be taken at night before bed.   Does anyone else dose Stratera at night? It sounds strange to me...but her ODD is really out of control on the way off the Adderall at night and horrible when she wakes up before the Adderall kicks in.     Anyone else's on Statera? Anything that happened strange with you and yours?   Thanks ya'll! Kim 10 is too low, she should go to 18, then to 25...etc. Her target dose for her weight is 27-40 mg. Usually if they are using in combination with a stimulant they want to stay on the lower end, so she may be ok on 25.

She's started at 10 mg...7 years old 50 lbs.

So far I don't see a difference...it may be making it worse. But that is failry normal for my dd as the second day on any new drug is always the worst...then it gets better by the day. I think her body has a bit of a frak out to teh new drug and then she's settles into it.  I knw it takes weeks beofre you see full effect of it.

Is there somewhere to look and see what her dosage "should" be for her weight and age?

Thanks!

I am 45 years old, weigh 67 kilos, started strat 3 weeks ago on 25 mg. After one and a half weeks my 11 year old son said, 'you are different'.
After the first week I went up to 40mg which is where I still am, I am unfortunately getting dizzy when I stand up, if it stays like that I will stick with it but think I might actually black out soon, which would mean the end of strat for me, a great shame because I think it is great, apart from a dry mouth I feel really good on it, have had a couple of instances where I have totally missed what is going on around me but the improvement is like Hallowell says in his book 'Driven to Distraction' putting on glasses for the first time after 45 years of short sightedness.
Thanks for telling me what ramping is Diane V.
Unfortunately Lexismom they say with Strat that you cant say a particular weight needs a particular dosage, it is very individual, but I would say very much worth persueing.
Has anybody else experienced this giddyness with Strat, imagine it is probably just me,a s I am prone to this kind of thing.

Her target range is between 26-40 mgs, Strat is dosed by weight, not by age or symptoms.

Strattera is totally weight dependant, although less meticukously with adults. 40 is probably still too low.  My daughter is 83 pounds and currently on 72mg which is actually too high for ehr weight, but doing ok. Dizziness is a side effect
