Update on eating | ADHD Information
Well, as you may all remember, I posted before wanting help with eating as my son lost 9 lbs during the first 30 days on his Concerta. (some of it was due to him also being sick during that time - but it was concerning none the less)
I have been pushing the carnation instant breakfast, both in milkshakes, and tonight I even stirred one into a glass of whole chocolate milk, and he has been drinking it right down. I also have been letting him eat late, like right now it is 9:15pm and he is eating dinner - but he wasn't hungry earlier. He just ate a whole quesadilla, and drank a chocolate milk with carnation - woo hoo! I have also switched him entirely to whole milk - even when I make things like mashed potatoes. I tried all the suggestions - let me tell ya!
We went to the doctor yesterday for a 2 week check since his last appointment. Since he is now well, the dr wanted to see him in 2 weeks to see if he was continuting to lose weight. And I am pleased to report - he GAINED 2 lbs!! YAY!So, he gets to continue his meds - which have been working great!
Thanks so much to everyone who responded to me with ideas - they are apparently working! Finding this board has been a real help to me - and I just wanted to thank you again. =)
Excellent! My child eats 2-3 dinners at night, and that's how he keeps his weight up. He stops eating about 15 minutes before he goes to sleep.We ought to take out some stock in Carnation! So many of us are using their products! Heehee!
On a side note - just in case anyone else wondered like I did - Carnation has a lot more vitamins and minerals in it than Ovaltine. I compared them at the store because my "know it all" cousin suggested that Ovaltine was the bomb and I should be using it instead. Turns out she is wrong - I won't be telling her that - unless she asks of course!
oh just an FYI..Since we are all buying it , we should get the best price! I found that Walmart in my area had the best price. Almost less then the supermarket.
Any one else find it somewhere less expensive? I wonder if Costco has it?

My local Costco doesnt carry it (i'm in Virginia), but my sams club does. A box that contains 22 envelopes for .24!! Not bad at all, considering that I paid .26 at Walmart for a box of 10.
geez..maybe we should get some endorement money!!

I have been buying my Carnation at Wal-Mart too. The HyVee is quite a bit higher in price.

WE just switched to the whole milk as Ryan eats alot of cereal and I figure..mine as well put whole milk in it!! On top of that , last night I started giving Ryan a glass of chocolate milk with his snack... AND I put in a package of Vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast just like you gatorsmom! He wont drink the CIB alone...so I put in extra chocolate powder. He sucked it down..plus ate two bowls of cereal and four chocolate chip cookies. PLUS for dinner ate a whole chicken breast, corn and mac and cheese..yup made with w hole milk...!
Hope it continues to work for you and I think we are giving Carnation Instant Breakfast a real boost! LOL
That's great. Congratulations. I too have been pushing the carnation instant breakfast...my son likes it alot. So hopefully soon I can report some weight gain as well!
