Dexedrine Spansule | ADHD Information

Does anyone have any information on this drug.  My son was just prescribed this at a 5 mg. dose to start off with.  He's tried Foculan XR with horrible results and Ritalin LA with okay results.  We're considering trying this drug.  Any assistance/information would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks.I take the time release dexedrine and have been on it for nearly 4 years now (I'm 40).

I can tell you that the side effects are typical at first for an amphetamine med (jittery, appetite suppression) but they all went away within about a month.

The spansule has a burst of meds about 20 or 30 minutes after taking it - and another at about 2 or 3 hours after that.  I find that one dose for me lasts about 6 to a maximum of 8 hours.  I'm Rxed for 2 doses a day but on an average day I can take the one and be fine.

The only warning I can give is to take it with a meal (that avoids the jitters somewhat) and not to take it with a highly acidic food or vitamin (citrus, vitamin C) or with an antacid (pepto, tums) as it either increases or decreases potency.

Within a few months I found that things were so much easier to control.  Every few months I had to increase the dose for the first while (started at 10mg and now at 30mg) but it eventually hit it's mark and I've stayed at 30 for quite a while.

It's easy to cut fast with no tapering off so if there are adverse effects they are gone quickly enough.

I hope you find that this med works for your son as well.
