Med change not going well.... | ADHD Information

I'm sorry it didnt work out for you. As far as Tenex vs Clonidine, Clonidine is much more sedating. IMO Tenex for ADHD aggression is a better choice, although, I am no expert either. Clonidine works wonders if you are having sleep isues also. I cant imagine if my daughter had had to function taking Clonidine in the day, it WIPED her out! Hang in there, I'm sure you'll be happy going to an ADHD clinic.I'm sorry it didn't work out too.  My Ped almost try to make it sound like this is all my fault....she said something like, "well, remember you didn't want to increase on the Concerta again and you wanted to try Strattera".....WTH?!  Sorry that I was trying something that might be more beneficial and a non stimulant....GGRRRR.  I think it might be time to find a new pediatrician.   Its too bad too b/c I really really like her.

you can keep her, just use her for whats she's good at, ear infections, strep throat, well visits . Ask for referrals out when it goes past that.

I always feel bad when I see the bad Strattera stories. My daughter is SO even keeled and happy on this med, I cant imagine it doing the opposite. Hopefully we wont face that.

Go with the Concerta and then deal with the specialists in April.

We gave it a good try, we were halfway into week 4.  I'm always glad to hear about a family that has a good tool like Strattera in their ADHD chest.  I feel guilty for putting him through this at all, but how else do you know what works? **sigh**

DS is officially off Strattera.  He was beginning to get more aggressive over the last several days and it escalated to a frightening situation with DS choking DD yesterday (my Bday ).  The Strattera was loosing its benefits of sleep too.  I called the doc and she said to take him off ALL meds.  Yeah.  SO, I did.  I drove DS to school today to fill in the teacher.  Got a call at 11am that DS was out of control and had kicked and hit classmates, could not calm down.  I truly believe his teacher gave it her best shot, but she had a meeting she had to attend and did not think it would be good to leave him in class with just the aide.  I pretty much expected this.  I get the feeling the ped thinks DS has "other issues" and frankly it pisses me off.  Look, I'm no expert, but like so many of you here, I've studied more about ADHD than most peds out there.  SHe agrees he's not ODD, so I get the feeling she's hinting at bipolar.  Um, no.  I'm no md, but I did get a degree in psych and have had to research bipolar in the past.  DS had SEVERE adhd, where he cannot function w/out meds.  He does have SPD.

The good news is that I found an ADHD clinic 30 minutes from me that can see him come April, if I get all the paperwork filled out quickly, so thats good.  I have an appointment with a different ped in the same practice on Monday.  My ped doesn't want me to give DS meds at all until then, but I don't think that's a good idea.  I might just go ahead with the Concerta as before.  DH is going to be away all weekend for the Guard, and I can't risk him hurting DD.  DS needs to me on meds and the last 2 days have made that clear.  It breaks my heart, but at least I know that we've been doing the right thing thus far (I mean trying to find the best med) I might ask about Clonodine or Tenex.....I think Tenex is the better of the two, right?  I'll have to do some more reading.

thanks for listening.
