Not ADHD now Bipolar | ADHD Information

Hi everyone, my son was diagnosed with adhd.  He has been on a few different meds that didn't work.  It actually activated the symptons more.  No he is diagnosed with bipolar.  Could there be something else besides bipolar?  He is impulsive, agressive and very angry.  He's been taking Tenex and now Lithium along with it.  Right now he is in the childrens hospital because of many episodes that happenned in the past two weeks since he's been taking Lithium.

I believe this is not the right medication for him especially if it's not even at the therapeutic dosage yet.  I went to see him and that was not my son.  Do anyone know of any other mood stabilizer that is safe and effective?  I am going to have them take him off of that med.  I miss my happy son.  He is now depressed and talking about killing.  He doesn't seem to care about anything and expressed his hatred for me.  He has never done that.  Oh yea, he is 6 years old.  I don't know what else to do

Bipolar seems to be a common alternative diagnosis for ADHD symptoms.

Kaiser Permanente is fond of misdiagnosing it this way.

I'd definitely get a second opion, seeing as

the current behavior of your son

seems pathological.

Best wishes...

I don't think that 6 years old is too young for either diagnosis.  I think that bi-polar in children is very real...but I would definitely get a 2nd opinion if you're not sure.

Seroquel is another atypical antipsychotic.

I would also get a second outside opinion, but in the mean time consider Abilify, it is an Atypical antipsychotic used for adhd and BP, with good results usually. IMO 6 is kinda young for either diagnosis.
