He finished a book! | ADHD Information

Thanks for sharing. Good for him! I'm going to check the books out too. Although my daughter is older, she is way behind grade level with reading so I'm always looking for younger books that she will be interested in.

Jade rock - that is so great! I love hearing about the joys! I think reading is
a particular challenge, at least around here, for some styles of ADHD, where
the mind wanders and the eye can't always find the right next line on the
page and the frustration of building a vocabulary is so off-putting. But as a
reader myself, I so want my kid to experience the joys and adventures of
books. I'll be eager to check out the Fonz series - sounds great!

whoohoo!! I know what a challenge it is to get them to read! Ryan only finished his first chapter book last year in 3rd grade!

to your little man! I have to go check out those books. They sound pretty neat and hey we all LOVED the Fonz......ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

For the first time ever DS finished a chapter book entirely on his own (by this I mean I didn't read any of it to him, not that he did it of his own initiative).

My husband and I stumbled across this series in a used bookstore and the owner couldn't stop raving about it so we had to buy it.  The series is Hank Zipper- they're written by Henry Winkler (The Fonz from Happy Days).  It's about a 4th grade boy who has dyslexia (as does the author).  I think that DS could relate to a lot of the daily struggles and misunderstandings of the main character.  But mostly I'm just excited that he actually finished it with minmal protest!  I'll take that to mean he really liked it.

Just thought I'd share.  I can imagine there are others out there struggling to get disinclined kids to read.  The one my son read was "Help! Get Me Out of the Fourth Grade", but here's a link to the first one on Amazon.

I have heard about those books- that is wonderful!!!
