tenex & Nail biting/anxiety | ADHD Information

I think nail biting is considered more of "compulsive" type behavior rather than a tic. Although both can be exacerbated by stimulants. The tenex could help with this. My daughter had some compulsive type behaviors on Concerta (skin picking, scratching, hair pulling), the Tenex did not help her enough, we had to go off the Concerta. All of it stopped.Diane V39507.6613425926

The nail biting did not start until after she had been on stimulants a while. SHe does it a lot and it is worse on adderall. This fall a boy she sat next to in class kept telling her to STOP biting her fingernails and she started picking her skin. She was on adderall at the time. When we switched to concerta in October the skinpicking stopped. At the end of Jan. we switched back to adderall again due to grades and now the nail biting is getting worse again. It seems like it is worse when she is having to sit still and concentrate. I was hoping tenex might help this!

Thanks for the replies!

I know that tenex is supposed to help with tics. Does that include nail biting? DD bites her nails so much that they bleed. Stimulants definitely make it worse. We are considering adding tenex for various reasons and was wondering if tenex would help with the nail biting. Is tenex supposed to help with anxiety caused by the stimulants?

Thanks!!!

My daughter is currently on Tenex and Concerta.   It is helping somewhat with tics (usually anxiety related) but hasn't made them totally go away.   I think she is a little less anxious on Tenex but I never really saw her as overly anxious before hand.

She is also a nail biter.  For her, she usually does this when she is bored.   Stimulants don't make this worse for her.  I don't think tenex has effected this behavior.

When the Focalin XR dose got too high for my child, he picked at his fingers a lot.  He picked in the cuticle area, but it never bled.  It could be a side effect of the stimulants.
