It sounds as if he had a Seizure of some sort, and he should probably be evaluated for a Seizure disorder. Smoking someone's pot is not going to cause what you saw, maybe someone's crack, but not pot.
I have heard of this side effect with Methylphenidate, but it is rare, extremely rare.
Thank you. I'm just beside myself this morning. Sitting here trying to replay the last few days. I am waiting for this last doctor to order him an eeg, while I'm still trying to find him a good psych dr. plus I had all of his records sent to the neurology dept at Children's Hosp. I just don't know if they will take my insurance as well. But its sure worth a shot to try to find out. There is one dr if I can remember his name, he is a pediatric neurosurgeon i believe, as well as he has other degrees in psychiatry, and other things. He's about 2 hours from here, but if I can find his name and number again I'm going to shoot for trying to get into him. I only fear because he is an older man that he might retire within a few years, then i'll be back where I started. Honestly, he should have had an EEG , and an EKG before being put on meds.i have been trying to get the doctor or any doctor for that matter to do an eeg since he got hurt last may. he had a moderate grade concussion, he lost conciousness for a minute or so, and was completely blinded for about 15. and every since then he's having cognitive problems in school, he's having problems with his bowels. and he started having vision problems. just different things, and everyone kept looking at me like i was an over paranoid mom around here. i knew when he was little that he might be adhd but i let it go, because he wasn't going to school and he wasn't hurting anyone. but when he started kindergarten this year, he couldn't sit in his seat, he couldn't walk down the hall ( he would run, turn in circles, jump up and down) etc.
I was never so annoyed as i was yesterday, we were in the waiting room at the e.r. and there was this guy with his wife across the hall and they came and took her for tests, so after my sons nurse left the room he came over, and said thats really sad, he is hallucinating, they don't think gee it might be the medication they have him on????? hello. he said i was adhd all my life and still am, i was never medicated and i made it all the way through college. HELLO WHERE IS MY SONS PRIVACY?????? so then he starts casting judgement on us for having him on medication. I told him that was his parents choice, and i use to believe the same, but as a parent my son depends on me to do the right things for him thats in his best interest. and when something affects his ability to get an education its my job to make sure that doesn't happen. i said of course some parents find other means to deal with it. that is their right, where as this is MY RIGHT..... He said well I would knock that dr out that told you it was from him smoking pot. Ok where do you get off listening to my conversation in another room? 2nd of all you will 2nd on that list you keep eavesdropping. I mean what happened to privacy and laws people? Does my son have no privacy rights because he's a child? Sorry I know I got a little off topic there.
Sorry I haven't been around lately. Trent had 2 surgeries & lots of casts on his foot. But I'm in desperate need of some answers right now. i'm going to try to keep this short. If you remember I posted before that his teacher is concerned that he will be failing kindergarten. Well I put him in sylvan and she went to try to retest him yesterday and his eyes were huge and they were just jerking back and forth and he was completely clueless as to anything around him. Then this morning she called me extremely concerned. He was freaking out in the classroom telling all the kids ot look there were bugs all over him and they were pinching him. He couldn't see them, but he could feel them. So I flew to the school as fast as I could, and we were headed to his dr and he started to have what looked like a seizure his head flew to the side and his arm was flopping around hitting himself, and he was screaming for my friend. So we turned and rushed him to the e.r. in the meantime while waiting to get in to the e.r. i called his dr to let them know we were at e.r. instead and she went and got the dr and the dr told me that only 2 things would cause him to act like this 1. he was having a manic bipolar attack or 2. HE SMOKED SOMEONE'S POT. So they run drug tests and everything on my son and they were ALL normal, but it did come up positive for diazepam which he was on after his last surgery. We gave him a small dose of it last thursday to help him relax for the removal of his cast and button. But the pharmacist said there is absolutely noway that it should still be in his system. so anyway, nobody can tell me why this is happening to my son, but this other dr thinks he might be having some form of seizures. so he is ordering an eeg next week.
the pharmacist told me the metadate cd can cause this. but hes been on it for a while now and never had this happen. he said they are little tiny bugs that he can't see, but their feet are sticky and they pinch him. and when we open the windows they come in and land on him. i'm really terrified, and nobody seems to be able to give me any answers around here. and they tell me to keep giving him the metadate. anyone else experience anything like this?
How terrifying! I don't have any answers but just wanted to send hugs and good thoughts. Good luck figuring this out.
thank you. its very terrifying and its still happening so i've got him laying in bed, trying to relax for a while. thank you for the hugs & good thoughts, at this point he needs them. i need to go for now, he's having another one whatever it is. Big hugs to you guys. How scary. I don't really have anything to suggest, though I do remember other posts along a similar line. You might try search for posts containing bugs.no. hes been on 20mg in the mornings and then 10mg at lunchtime.
i'll try doing a search. i just am at a total loss.
i forgot to add the last dr who is ordering the eeg is concerned with his weight. He weighed 70 lbs last aug/sept and now he's down to 52lbs.
i think the bug "thing" is anxiety related. Does he see a psychiatrist for meds?
we are in the process of finding one. they don't have any childrens around here. i'm trying to get him into one in st louis, but it seems like everyone isn't either taking new patients, or they have a 2 month waiting for an appt.
