Ok guys, now I really need your help!
I've got my promotion starting in 3 weeks, the thing is, I have my follow up appointment with my ADHD nurse on 17th March and I'm going to ask for some meds to keep me concentrating and on task with my new job.
I'm going to have to stick to deadlines which I have never had to do before, its going to be a core or mundane tasks with other bits that are ad hoc which should make it more varied and I'm already on the brink of a panic attack with worry! What if I can't do it? I've only been a receptionist before!! What if they think I'm crap and kick me out like all the other did?
Will meds help me immediatly and will any side effects kick in straight away too? Sould i get my meds from my doctor first and settle into them before I move jobs? I'm really freaking out and would love any support over this.
Thanks guys, you're the best!! xxx
you never know with meds if they'll work immediately or not. Same with side effects, although generally IF you're going to see side effects, it's when you first start on a med, or with a dose increase. Generally mild side effects go away after the first week or so.
Good luck on your new job! You'll do great!!
I was on the verge of losing a really great job and was given 30 days to turn things around or I could take a severance package. I have been a Property Manager for 5 years in multi-family housing and I was working for one of the best companies. I opted for the severance since I was called and offered another position.
Shortly after that I started taking Vyvanse 30mg and it worked great but wore off too soon. I started taking 50mg and again wore off too soon. I am taking 2 70mg of Vyvanse a day now and if I had been taking this med at the previous job I would have never had the problems I did (short attention span, unable to focus, hard time learning etc.) The Vyvanse worked immediately though.
In my opinion, you should start immediately before you take the position even if it is the smallest dosage. I do have to warn you that Vyvanse has not been approved by the FDA for use in adults and the cost is outrageous! I pay 0 for 60 pills at 70mg. BUT, the good news is that my doc told me the FDA has now approved for adults and it would be covered by most insurance policies effective May 1, 2008.
Thanks Diane, I as sobbing on my boyfriends lap yesterday when my axiety got the better of me, I hope I'll do well this time, only time will tell!!
I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow to see my doctor so that I can make sure I'm doing the right thing!!
Start the meds as soon as you can. that will give you time to adjust to the new med and if you have any negative side effects--to deal with them. This will also help you develop the habit of taking your meds, which is difficult for some people.
I noticed the effects the first day. For me, it was a calmness that came over me. The other positive things have kept coming. For me it has been the little things that have improved my life. I find that it is easier to start things that I would have avoided. And the meds have evened out my moods. The aniexty and the constant fear has just about disappeared.
Keep us posted on what happens. We will all be keeping our fingers crossed for you and your new job. Good luck!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh that is my story exactly. I have been so anxious. I was diagnosed ADD and started with Concerta got started with some problems but after a week they doubled up and it had a great effect don work. Because of the side effects the dr is haveing me try Adderall rx but it has been horrible. I enjoyed my time of knowing I was doing well at work. This week where I feel like I am going to be fired on Monday. I cant take it.
