is anyone on Wellbutrin? Good/bad? | ADHD Information

I am curious to find out if Wellbutrin (which for me would be less expensive) would be as effective as the Strattera (which is super expensive for me) has been for my ADHD/ADD.  I have heard that the Wellbutrin can cause some temporary grouchiness at first but that it wears off.  I would be willing to suck it up for a short period of time if it meant I wouldnt be constantly strapped for money every month to pay for my medications AND if it would be as effective as the Strattera has been for me.

I've been on Wellbutrin XL for about 1.5 yrs now and it works great for me.  I actually started on it before I was dx'ed adhd- had thought it was depression/anxiety until after my son was dx'ed and started to connect the dots.  I had tried several antidepressants but didn't see a lot of results until the wellbutrin.

I didn't have any problem with side effects with the Wellbutrin- it has a relatively low rate of side effects (according to my doc), but the thing they make a big deal about is that it increases your risk of seizures if they run in your family, or if you're bulimic.  I don't know anything about grouchiness when starting it- I know that within a few weeks I felt great and it wasn't until a lot of what was going on in my head was gone that I realize it wasn't normal.

My doc had actually put me on strattera along with the wellbutrin (after the adhd dx), at a low dose because they interact, but it didn't do anything but cause side effects.  I stopped that and started Adderall XR on days when I had school and needed to focus more.  I've since increased the Wellbutrin from 150mg to 300 mg and now it works so well that I don't need to take the adderall very often at all.

Brand- name Wellbutrin was very expensive, but I've been getting the generic since I increased the dose.

I have a 38 yr old who takes wellbutrin.  He has moderate adhd.  It really sems to help him.
