Newbie here | ADHD Information

Hello, welcome to this website. There is nothing i can think of to add to edbson's list, they're pretty good suggestions. He is probably too young for a formal diagnosis, my advice would be to STOP the juice, give him water, and change his diet a bit. NO sugar, no artificial colors or sweeteners, mostly organic.

Hi everyone

Im Nikki, 32 and mam to Lewis, who will be 3 next month, married to Kev and we live in Durham.

Both my husband and stepson have ADHD and my lo is showing the signs of it too.  He is being referred to the community paediatrician for a formal diagnosis.  I know that he is still young, but he never seems to spend his energy, doesnt sleep properly, is constantly drinking juice and is dribbling.

I am also registered disabled, and with my restricted mobility, as you can imagine Im finding it really hard to keep up with him.  My husband is also on crutches for a back condition and we just have not had any support whatsoever - until we asked for it ourselves!!

We are just now waiting for various appointments to come through and really feel like we are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Look forward to your replies and Im sure I will be replying to you too!!

Many thanks if you got this far!!

Nikki xxx

Hi there Nikki and welcome to the site! You are not that far from me. I am in Goldsboro..just on the other side of Raleigh.

I am sure you will like this site. It's comforting and people really do understand what you are going through. Good luck and hope to see you in the forums.

I actually live in Durham, UK,   sorry for not stating!!

We have also tried the elimination diet, and cutting out additives, preservatives and artificial sweetners, which we have found doesnt make any difference to his behaviour at all.  I also give him home-cooked food too so I know what he's eating.  He won't drink just plain water, and he hates milk, so at the moment Im giving him pure apple juice topped up with plenty of water.  He also gets smoothies, which gives him his 5-a-day.

Im just stuck for what to do now until we have seen the paediatrician and our new HV (old one was as much use as a chocolate teapot!)

Thank you for all of your replies and look forward to bouncing some ideas off you all.

mam2lewis39513.0453125oops! lol We are still close by what we go through.

It sounds to me that you are doing everything you can. I don't know how his behavior is but something that helps my son is a regular routine. We have a routine for everything we do. It works out for him and helps him. There are no surprises there to throw him off. He knows exactly was he has to do and most of the time he does it.
