we tried it when son was ALMOST 7. It wasn't for him, but you will know right away. Post any questions.
I brought him to the doctor and he saw it as well. So, we switched him to concerta, dealt with the appetite and trouble sleeping for only a while.
Now life is normal, except for the mornings waiting for the meds to kick in. But believe me, once you find the right med and dosage, things change for the better.
hang in there and post any concerns, questions, etc!!
Thank you...I may be asking many questions in trying to find the right med, dosage and side effect issues. This forum is my outlet for so much!I think starting on a weekend is good idea too. My daughter took Adderall for a while when she first started meds. She did have some appetite and sleep concerns, but we dealt with it. He may be fine. 5mg is pretty low. Try to do a big breakfast and see how it goes, if he doesnt really want lunch thats pretty typical, usually they make up for it in the evening. Give it to him early (the hard part about Saturdays), in case there is an issue with falling asleep. It's daylight savings too so we lose an hour sleep Saturday night anyway. Good luck! Any negatives to the Adderall that made your daughter switch to another med? Thanks for all the advice yesterday. Went to the doctor today and he suggested Adderall XR 5mg caplets to start. Anyone with experience with Adderall XR to report in very young children? Insomnia or appetite issues and how you dealt with them? Any information is greatly appreciated. I am thinking we will start Saturday rather than tomorrow since he goes to preschool in the morning. What do you think about that?I started my son's Concerta on a Saturday when he was going to be home with me over a 3 day weekend just to be sure things were going to go ok. I wanted him with me so I could judge how it was or wasn't affecting him. I think waiting until Saturday is a good idea.
