Yes, the group in the learning support center at Tx. children's is great! We are getting some behavioral therapy there and they were also the ones who suggested meds.
We might up the Daytrana or try another class such as adderall. Does anyone know if a new drug in the same class sometimes work when another doesn't. (ex. Ritalin works if Daytrana doesn't even though they are both methylphenidates?)
Thanks!
DD was also dx'd at TX childrens, their Neuropsych team is awesome. I am surprised they saw a child that young though, we had to wait until DD was 8.
Daytrana is in the same family of meds like Concerta, Ritalin, Metadate etc, they are all Methylphenidate. Adderall is dexamphetamine, and works quite well for some.
I would increase the patch dose and see if it helps, if not you can always move to another med.
Increased aggression can be a side effect of the meds. You could try something different in the Ritalin family or the Adderall family. my son is 4 1/2 and has been on 10 mg Daytrana for over a week. we really aren't seeing any positive changes, in fact his teacher has said she feels we are back at square 1. we are going to the dr. tomorrow and I am trying to figure out what to try next (our dr. pretty much leaves it up to us! Any suggestions adderal, concerta, ritalin...this is all so confusing! You could go up in dosage, give it another week or so! He is only 4, what does the Psychiatrist say his dx is?
His dx is adhd combined type. His teacher says he has been more aggressive and I have personally seen other kids not wanting to play with him. He is very outgoing and wants people to like him! I am thinking about seeking a neurologist? We had him tested at Texas Children's Hospital but we do know he is very young for the dx. We have just always known there is "something" about him. Thanks for listening!Yes, they do alot of times. It is sometimes the delivery system that kids have problems with.
