job hunting | ADHD Information
What is it you do? Is there any possibility of starting your own business, or working doing the same thing but in a different type of environment?
The only thing I can really tell you is that you should do something soon rather than later. The longer you put it off the more the anxiety will build making that much harder. It sounds like you will need some support though. Are you seeing a counselor or therapist who can help you through the process? Also, make sure that your adhd treatment is working well for you- many people with adhd are undertreated due to the stigmas that are out there and mispercerptions about medications- even doctors are sometimes hesitant to increase dosages on meds because of this.
hello all. i will try to keep this short. i was diagnosed with adhd about a
year and a half ago which explains a lot for me. i have had some horrible
experiences with work ever since i was 16 (i am 28 now). i couldn't stand
the thought of working my entire life being miserable, so i went to school
to learn a trade that i would love doing....which brings me to now.
i just quit a job because i couldn't take it anymore. at one point i ended
up in a mental hospital for almost three weeks (i also have major
depression disorder and social anxiety disorder). long story short the job
was what i would call traumatic.
i love what i do...i really do. but now i am jobless and stressed out
horribly. my problem is that i am scared to death of getting another job. i
start to have panic attacks just thinking about it. do i need to just "man
up" (as it was eloquently put in the men's forum) or is this a normal thing
with adhd'ers? i've got to do something, i am a father and husband after
all...which i don't feel like i am doing very well at lately.
anyone have any similar experience? advice? criticism?
thanks in advance.Sometimes your job or jobs just plain SUCK!!!!!! It's NOT your fault, it's not because of ADHD.
BTW, if someone says you need to "man up" they are just passifying you and the problem, instead of actually trying to help. FVCK anyone that says such nonsense. Also, if you are a man, does that mean you have to take sh!t from someone?? FVCK NO!!! IT'S UNFAIR! Do we tell girls to "Woman Up" too???
It's not the job usually, but the a$$ hole power-tripping bullies that are in management, or other coworkers that make your job harder just so they can kiss their boss's as$ and try to look good at your expense.

I've been constantly changing jobs over the last 2 years, and I just can't help it! Every traumatic job experience just lowers your patience and tolerance for the next job after. I've got so mad from being abused at jobs that I've wanted to seriously hurt some people, and have to try REAL HARD to hold my temper, which wasn't such a problem before. And the ADHD doesn't help because the thoughts race over-and-over in the mind and you can't reframe your mind and get over it as easy as some. OH WELL!
If you are having trouble finding a job, temporary labor work may provide the money and/or job opportunity to get by until a good job comes along.
Try to stay positive. It helps, but it's not easy. I wish you the best of luck. Try to find a low-stress, slow-paced job, it helps ease the pressure.ADHDinsane39526.9235416667
