I swear my son's new daytrana 10mg patch is 'wearing off' after 4-5 hours. I know it sounds insane since the patch releases a dose every hour, but the effects that we see right away in the morning are gone by noon. Could it be too low a dose so we are seeing a spike as it enters his bloodstream, but it is not enough later in the day? Any thoughts are appreciated...

My 5 yr. old ds has been on adderallxr for 2 months. For the last 2 wks. it seems like it is wearing off sooner. Some of his impulsive behavior is back w/ a vengence in the evenings. At his last dr. appt. this past Tues. the dr. asked if he needed to up the dosage and I initially said "no , not as long as he is doing ok at school". Now I really wish I had asked him to up the dose---and boy do I feel guilty admitting that. He is really argumentative and wild and is having trouble focusing when we talk to him. And he talks talks talks constantly.....even if no one is in the room.

I am thinking I might call the dr. tomorrow and see..........

What does anyone think???

Both of our situations sound like too low of a dose to me. My doctor said that at too low a dose you sometimes see the bad side effects without the good. In my case, the daytrana is absorbed through the skin. My son has a very fast metabolism. I have no idea if this would make a difference, but it is like there is not enough consistently in his system to keep things even. I hate waiting for the dr appt with questions like these...any thoughts out there? I am calling the doctor today. I have not filled the last prescription so I am hoping he will either change the dose or give us an evening booster. Alot of people say tenex is helpful for impulsiveness so I may just ask. I feel a little guilty asking for more meds....In our case, we are cutting down a 20mg daytrana patch. I wonder if the cutting is causing the problem with consistent med in the afternoon? Doctor ok'ed it-any thoughts?

Saw the dr. today. He wants to up the dose from 10 mg addreallxr to 15 mg. He wants us to try this before thinking about adding a new med.

I don't know much about the patches. YOu could look it up on the net. Or call a pharmiscist(sp?).

Maybe start a new post entitled "cutting daytrana patch in half" I am sure alot of these good people would respond.
