allergic to ritalinHis parents and doctors believe that it is necessary for him to be on medication, but he is very allergic to ritalin. They switched him to something called concerta but his tounge and faced swelled and they had to take him off it again. I was wondering if anyone else has a child who is allergic to these medications, and if they tried any alternatives that the child wasnt allergic to? My friend is so overwhelmed and frustrated, and I told her I would try and find out some things online (sorry for posting in a parent forum when I am not in fact a parent). Any responses would be appreciated! An allergy to Methylphenidate is rare, but it does happen. Strattera is an alternative, but he is probably too young to take it. None of the meds for ADHD are approved for kids under age 6. I would suggest they see a Psychiatrist, who would know more about alternatives. or maybe Adderall, that is not methylphedinate. It is also approved over 6, but I am sure there are pediatric psychiatrists who prescribe for a 5 year old. |
