take anything for stress?
I ask this, because a couple years ago I took Lexapro for stress. But it actually causes weight gain. It worked wonders, but I didn't like that I had gained about 5 lbs or so on it. So I had the doctor switch me. I don't remember what he put me on but I didn't like the way it made me feel so I just quit taking it. I think I need to talk to him and try taking the lexapro again or something else. I just feel so overwhelmed and stressed at times. I'm constantly having headaches, I'm exhausted, I can't sleep at night. I just don't feel 100%.
Anyway, the reason for my post is I'm looking for suggestions of things people have tried that might help so that I can ask the dr.
Thanks in advance.
When we moved 8 months ago and we knew no one down here at all, I gained 60 lbs. I need to lose the weight and I don't have the willpower at all to do so. My doctor down here prescribed Cymbalta which has helped with depression/anxiety but has done nothing for my weight.:( i'm sorry thats my biggest fear. I'm already bigger then i want to be. But at this point, I just want to not be so stressed.I do not take anything for stress, a few beers while camping ususally does it for me. We camp ALOT!Guess I'm alone in the looney bin so to speak. ah well :) it's all good. I'm off to the doctor. I started Lexapro about 3 years ago. I was having meltdowns as big as my son. The doctor told me it was an axiety disorder and it has worked wonders. Im on 30 mg and yes I have gained weight but I think it was worth it.
Well I am looney. Hahaha. Just kidding. Sorry in a funny mood. I went to the doctor and he agreed and put me back on lexapro he wants me to see how I do on it. But I can' take it for at least a week ugh!!
While I was there I asked him about a sore throat I woke up with this morning. Because I just had this very same sore throat at the end of feb. I said its probably because I let myself go, because i have no time for myself. Well it could be strep, but because i have a red rash spotted all over inside my mouth he thinks its viral. So he put me on antibiotics for 10 days and robitussin a-c (codeine) to help with the pain, because i cringe everytime I swallow.
So I killed 2 birds with one stone, just have to wait to start the lexapro. But he said if I don't end up needing or taking the robitussin then I can start them. Something about seratonin or something like that in the lexapro. Anyway, regardless hopefully this will help and maybe i wont be so stressed out when I go to my sons meeting at the school.
Good Luck! It'll work out

Thank you. I sure hope so. I don't think things could get any more stressful in this house but as soon as i say that, they will. haha.
It doesn't sound like you should take it, not if you want to function. The lorazepam makes you really relaxed and they start you off on one milligram its more like a sedative so you just can relax. That has worked for me maybe ask your doc. about that??? I've heard the lexapro can have those effects, my friend was on it and eventually stopped due to similar side effects. Good LuckI have taken prozac for years. I started taking it when under alot of stress/depression when diagnosed w/brain tumor. I got the the radiation , hairloss etc. (all while being a newlywed
). I have been ok for 15 yrs and counting.
I tried to quit prozac a couple of times and had to get back on because I was anxious, cranky, sad and angry.
I started taking lorazepam before we knew ds had adhd but we definately knew something was wrong and it affected our entire family. I know you guys know where I am coming from. I was majorly stressed. The lorazepam was just enough to take the edge off but not make me sleepy or dopey. I am now off of that.
Since ds has started meds things are so much better. It is not perfect but manageable.
By the way, dh also took anxiety meds.....
Don't we just sound like the healthiest family????
well i've been taking it for 2 days and i don't know if the lexapro is a good fit for me this time around. i don't like the way it makes me feel at all. it's horrible.
i get super jittery after i take it, then when i get up in the morning my blood sugar is dropping super low, and i really hot, and dizzy and feel like i'm going to vomit. I've taken it 2 nights now and both nights the following morning i've had it happen, and i wasn't having this happen before. so i think i'm gonna actually have to see the dr and tell him its a no go, i can't handle these side effects as i have to take kids to school, go pick them up at 11, 2 and 3. so I have to be on my toes & not scared to drive for fear of passing out.
anyone else experinece this on lexapro? I don't know why its doing that to me now, it didn't when i took it a couple of years ago. and its only a 10mg and last night i cut the pill in half and only took half of it.
No, you're not alone in the bin! I'm mom to two ADHD kids (7 &9) and the only way I survive it is with Prozac and an occasional boost of an anti-anxiety med during rough patches.
Sorry--to be a bit more help about meds--yes, I've gained weight--30 lbs in the last 4 years, but I can't really say if it's the meds or just change in diet/lifestyle/aging. I quit exercising as a result of the depression, which probably had more to do with weight issues than anything else. Thats how I feel thesamman. I guess I will be going back to the doctor on Monday, because I'm still feeling no better tonight. I don't like this feeling at all. And with 3 kids, I can't be feeling like this for long. Not to mention then he means my husband has to step up and nobody wants that. haha
You know the saying, if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself? Well thats me in this house. Haha, my poor husband, I love him to death, but bless his heart, the more he tries, the more things get messed up. :) I will say at least he does try though.
Anyway, so any other suggestions on what to ask the dr for instead of the Lexapro? I need something very mild, because I don't ever take anything anymore other then over the counter excedrin or tylenol. Maybe thats my problem. LOL
