Help
Ive run out of resources. My son, who is 4, is uncontrolable. My family will no longer watch him, his preschool teacher fears he may not do very well in school (starts next August), my older daughter seperates herself from us because she gets very frustrated with her brother. He bounces off walls, is impulsive, he is a danger to himself. I finaly made an appointment with his doctor for a ADHD assesment. My husband thinks that we just need to be more strict with him. He watches no TV, has no toys in his room, he's constantly being put in time out. I dont know how much more discipline I could dish out, its as though he doesnt care about the concequenses of his actions. Im not able to take a shower without having him take one with me because Im in fear he'll turn on the stove, open the front door, play with the knives. Am I over reacting, could this be ADHD. Family tells me "hes a boy, they do these things". This doesnt feel normal. It could be any number of things (ADHD, ODD) or even medical conditons. But what is important is that you get him evaluated NOW! No, you are not over-reacting. Waiting too long can be costly (see my post under "Confused'). Do something now, I wish I would have. First, rule out a medical conditon, next have him evaluated by a professional. You will not regret it if you find someone knowledgable about childhood conditons! - Chris
