Those noises are called tics. You need to tell the doctor, you may need to change her meds. Some meds can make tics worse.
Tics can verbal ( barking, coughing, clearing their throat, etc.) or physical (blinking, scrunching their face, hand flapping).
She is on meds. She takes 20mg of MethylpheniIf it's specific to certain situations, that would lean toward it not being tics, right? You mentioned in the car and at stores. Is she bored at the times that she's doing it? Also, w/ the large groups, does she seem nervous at those times? my son is on meds and he started later sniffing alot, blinking his eyes alot. i mentioned it to his dr. and she stated it was tics, she had me to stop the meds on the weekends to see how it goes. he doesn't do it on weekends but during the week while taking his meds. dr said they come and go, which the sniffing has came and gone but still blinks alotI would also think it is tics. My son chews on the inside of his lip when he is on his meds. He does it more when he is concentrating really hard on something. I notice it more when he is playing his DS. I brought it to my dad's attention yesterday and he said he had never noticed it. He does not do it on the week-ends or whenever he is not on his meds. HisMom30139537.3108680556If she started it after med. it could be tic....but my granddaughter has always did
the animal noises from the time she was 3 or 4 ,very flustrating....it would really
be problem especially when she played with cousins. They liked playing doggie
and kitty would even get down on all 4's......... or in a store...people would stare
and
such. I hated to take her into one never knew what was going to happen. I'd asked
her a question and she would growl......but I
noticed the last 6 months ....she has stopped doing it.....she just
turned
9.....If it did occur I always remind her that its not a nice thing to do....and to
please stop....Everytime I heard the noises I would correct her...like I said very
irritating...With her I think it was her just trying to be different or a habit???
Also since Dec. we been on Concerta....this maybe why she has quit???? Just so
glad....also notice she is not nearly as loud when talking or in a group..... Not
sure if it just being more mature, working with behavior or
med's...
Hopes she out grows this faze....it really wears on your nerves....Its hard to get
them to quit it.
My child sometimes makes random noises when the stimulant isn't in his system. I think it's related to impulse control, and also having excess energy (the hyperactivity piece). Also, my child's volume increase when the stimulant isn't in his system. The noises and loud speaking volume were frequent issues before he started meds., so I know they're related to ADHD and not related to the meds.
mamaou, it's very possible your child isn't doing them anymore due to the Concerta. Do you notice them coming back at night when it's worn off or in the morning before it kicks in?
They could still be tics. The car and being public could be stressful situations for this child. My daughter has motor tics. Stress, lack of sleep and the cold are some of her triggers. Having a drink with ice in it or air conditioning blowing on her can cause her to tic.
Sometimes controlling the tics takes a heavy toll on the indidvidual. My daughter could control them in public but it took all her energy to do it and then her tic would be worse in the evenings. She can also sense when they are coming. It is helpful if she is holding a glass or something, since her tics involve a involuntary jerking of her arms and neck.
I have no clue.. My son (also 8) is CONSTANTLY making some sort of noise. He is driving me batty as I type...
My 8 y/o son has started to clear his throat and spit on the ground. Ughhis your child on adhd medications?
I have an 8 yr old that was diagnosed in Kindergarten and she started making animal noises last year. She does it at the store, in the car and when she is in large groups (holidays are really bad!). If a stranger says hi she will bark at them or hiss like a cat! Anyone one have some advise on how to help her feel comforted so she doesn't make these noises???
Did you ask him why he does it? My 9 yr old makes these shrill bird sounds (even in school) and I asked her why she does it and she said she 'thinks it sounds cool'. Her teacher and I keep telling her now annoying it is, that the kids don't like , etc. It has lessened but she still does it every now and then. (she is not on meds)
