Finding the right med. can be very frustrating! You say that you have ADD, not ADHD, right? If you don't have issues with the hyperactivity piece, how about trying Strattera? Or, have you tried guanfacine (Tenex), though that isn't great for helping with attention issues.
I have had anxiety most of my life, and I was recently diagnosed with adult ADD. Since that time, I have tried almost every medication until I finally stopped stimulants all together out of frustration. I have heard that Desoxyn is a medication with very little anxiety type side affects; however, I hear that no doctors will prescribe it. It is very frustrating to have to take a stimulant for ADD and then take Valium to counter the anxiety. Its frustrating that there are good medications that would help peoples lives, but doctors won't prescribe them because of a few bad cases. Has anyone had a similar experience. me2b, my daughter is almost 14, she also has anxiety and ADHD, combined, but is mainly inattentive. All stimulants increase her anxiety, along with a slew of other intolerable side effects. The meds that we have been the most happy with have been Strattera, which is what she now takes, it is approved for ADHD and non stimulant. She takes one pill in the morning and it coverage for the whole day. NO anxiety concerns or appetite issues. The other med we really liked was precribed off label, called Desipramine. It is a tricyclic antidepressant and not prescribed often these days due to more popular SSRI's for anxiety/depression and stimulants for ADHD, but google it Desipramine + ADHD, and Desipramine + anxiety, lots of data. We would've stayed on that, but it just didnt quite give her enough focus for school, she also has other LD's. The main side effect for her was some weight gain, which she desperately needed, still neeeds. The third thing I am thinking is Wellbutrin, this is also used frequently for off label ADHD use. I think as an adult you have a few more options.[QUOTE=Mom2ADHDboy]Finding the right med. can be very frustrating! You say that you have ADD, not ADHD, right? I have tried them both. The Tenex interferes with REM sleep and strataterra is aweful.
