sports they are in | ADHD Information

I am so new to all this ADHD thing.  I have learned a LOT from this site.  My question is..what sport if any are your children in? I put my son in karate. He loves it.

My son attempted to play baseball last summer, but unfortunately because at the time he wasn't on any medicines he couldn't stay on the field. He was constantly walking off, wondering around, looking up at the sky, playing in the dirt.

Now that he's on medicine he wants to try it again this year. Dad isn't going to coach him this year either, to see if that will make a difference.

My son has only been on meds. for about 2 weeks.  I took him to karate in the summer and he wanted nothing to do with it.  With him bring on meds now he is like 2 different kids.

My ds (8 yo) is in baseball and Tae Kwon Do.  He just started TKD and we are very happy with the program.  He wanted to do something outdoors too so we went with baseball.

Soccer, basketball and some tennis.

We tried softball one year and it wasn't good.  It was too slow and pre-med's.  She might do better now, but has no interest.
My adhd children are into competative simming. It is a team and non team sport so the have the best of both. They basically compete against themselves, and as a team.before meds, dd did porely in sports and activities, she was never able to listen and follow directions, in soccer, she's be picking flowers and looking for caterpillars, in swimming she's be constantly splashing others kids etc... when we started ringette in sept, she was not on meds yet, and she would be on her back doing snow angeles insted of listening, i was like "here we go again, another waist of money" after the 4th practice is when she started taking meds, and OMG what a difference, she was actualy paying attention, and wanting to play, it was pretty incredible, she has been doing awsome and now i'm exited to start her in swimming and other activities withough that kind of frustration again!

we've found soccer and swimmng to be good for our son

soccer is fast moving and swimming allows him to meet his independent needs

My son (9) played football last fall for the first time and loved it.  He'd been somewhat football obsessed for a while, which is the only way I can explain his success since it's a rather complicated sport.  He had a great time though.

He's playing baseball this spring (for the first time), so we'll see how that goes.  This is the first age group where it is really competetive, so I was a little worried at first, but after watching the evaluations last week I don't think he has anything to worry about- in fact if the group of kids I was watching is representiative of the skill level of the kids in general my son will be one of the better players-assuming he pays attention.

We had tried karate a couple years ago because I'd heard it's good for kids with adhd, but he didn't like it.  He had a lot of trouble with orientation (still does) so he had a hard time with it.

my son 9, is only interested in non team sports. he likes karate, horseback riding lessons, rock climbing, he has no fear for the outdoors at all so we do alot of camping and hiking he loves that.DD plays softball, and is extremely good at it. She is almost 11, and we already have the Jr high, and high school coaches "talking" to us. SOme kids just do sports, and some would rather do activities like Karate etc. My 8 1/2 yr old son does best at soccer (an understanding coach whose wife is an OT) and we are prepping him for cross country.  T-ball and little league were a disaster--too much down time.  He would play in the dirt while waiting for some action.  Karate, even with an understanding instructor, was too much--he needs a sport where constant action happens.  Swimming also seems to help.  Flag football has been wonderful--every boy should have some exposure to the basics of the game when they are in 1-2nd grade.
