Talking to the doctor about my medication | ADHD Information

Share
I was prescribed 40mg of adderall ir in February 2004 when i was a senior in high school...it has been a while since i started and the meds just don't seem to work as well as they used to. i have gained a fair amount of weight since then and try to keep vitamin c out of my diet...but still nothing.

I tried to get an appointment with the doctor that originally prescribed it to me but she works in pediatrics and im almost 22 now so they wouldnt let me have an appointment with her. I also trust her more because i had been seeing her as my doctor for 6 years and she was a lot more caring and nice than my new doctor at that facility.she knew more about me than this new doctor who is a bit crabby/bitter and i quite frankly do not enjoy going to see her because of her attitude.

How should i go about asking for an adjustment on the medication? Do i just say "hey they aren't working that great anymore i might have to bump my dosage up" ?

or should i go to a psychiatrist and talk to them instead... i don't know what to do...

Make an appointment and tell your doctor that you don't think your meds are working as well as they used to. You may need to have them adjusted or changed.  When I make an appointment with my doctor they always ask why I need to see him.

I think a psychiatrist is the best route, they have more experience managing these types of meds. The family doctor may not have the background to treat this type of condition in an adult. Ask your new doctor if she are comfortable treating you for ADHD, she may not be. If she isn't comfortable with it, ask for a referral to someone else. If you can't go to a shrink, try to find someone who is an ADHD specialist.
