Small Update on Trent | ADHD Information

So we were suppose to have the sap meeting on the 1st. On the 31st they sent home a letter stating it was changed to the 15th. So no big deal, at least this way I get to get his hearing checked and meet with the neurologist before the meeting now.

So this morning I drop him off at school and his teacher says let me show you these papers. She said its wrong, but he was so proud of himself. He was suppose to color shapes certain colors, instead he colored the entire outside of the box and not the shapes. So anyway she said she told him good job, but thats not what the instructions were. So she sent home a new one to do. But then another sheet he didn't complete it and it didn't look like his work, and his name was written horrible. She said he kept focusing more on his crayons and making sure they were straight and what not. She said i'm not saying the medicine isn't working, but he was a different kid yesterday. She said now it has been crazy in here this week and i've caught him covering his ears and stuff. I said yes, he can't stand noise, he can't concentrate around it. There is nothing I can do about that, thats just him, so the school is going to have to figure a way to make it quieter or something. Because he shouldn't suffer, because some of the kids in the class can't contain themselves.

anyway, any ideas on how to help him with this? I definitely don't think 1 day would constitute his medicine not working. Maybe i'm wrong, but I just don't think so.

I would ask about the headphones.  You could get him a little mp3 player that he could slip in his pocket- very discreet if the teacher worries that the other kids will want one too.

earplugs, maybe, or even headphones if they'd go for that. He would obviously need to take them off for instruction, but could put them on when it was time to focus and do the work.

I HATE background noise so I can 100% understand.....................and I'm a grown up........very grown up .

They tried "deadphones" in class for my dd. last year-- they helped but she has since decided she doen't want to wear them-- I think she was self concious with them on even though others in class wear them many want to but don't need them and aren't allowed to. My dd is snesitive to noises at times when she isn't the source of them!
I read reports and acticles about classrooms that were carpeted to reduce noice and echos etc. and the reports/articles and forum post say it really helps kids with noise issues.
good luck with mp3 player suggestion.
That's a good idea, maybe I will mention that to her in the morning. Thanks for the suggestions. My son also doesn't like noise ( when he isn't the cause of it too). He screams at his sister in the car when she sings. He covers his ears also when there is loud noise. I think the earplugs are a good idea. That may be something that she could use that wouldn't be as conspicuous as the earphones. It's worth a try. Good luck.

yeah thats true. I didn't get to talk to his teacher about it last week because i was so sick and then friday she wasn't there because she had to take her husband back to the dr so i'm gonna discuss options with her and see what she says.

The biggest problem with carpets in cleanliness. Kids will spill things and then they might be vaccuumed once a week. My children's 2nd grade teacher had to have her carpet removed, it was making her sick.
