Advice re Sub-categories | ADHD Information

Share

My 14-y-o son has ADHD, and I’ve noticed that he can’t seem to understand anything that can be sub-categoried or subdivided. For instance, he can’t understand hours and minutes, or countries and provinces/states.

Does anyone have any advice?

Okay, Jewar, this may sound simplistic, but my sister's son has the same problem and here's what she does: flashcards and paper plates. The flashcards are self-explanatory. Paper plates: she writes the main category (i.e. continents) on one paper plate. Then she cuts another paper plate into the number of subdivisions she needs and writes the appropriate things on the divisions. As her son studies, he places the subdivisions on top of the main category plate, thereby reinforcing the idea that the smaller parts are part of the whole. Sound useful?

Good luck!
